My 15 year old son has purchased two 10" Subwoofers, for installing into his 1994 Thunderbird with the following spec.
power -1000 watts max
voice coil= 2"
znom= 4 ohms
Fs= 26.9 Hz
SPL= 83.5 dB 2.83v/1m
Vas= 2.39 cu ft.
Qms= 5.23
Qes= .89
Qts= .76
Dual voice coil
Diminsions: A= 10.16", B= 9.69", C= 6.8"
My question is can someone with more knowledge than I help direct us to a proper box design,for this application, as oppose to him just buying whatever box has clear covers with neon lights.

They will need to be in a sealed box of at least 2 cu ft each. Unfortunately Qts is very high, makeing the box big but at least it will go a little deeper. As Qts is so high there will always be some peaking in response. They are not suited to a vented box.
The real power rating of them is probably more like 250 watts RMS. |

What kind of speakers are they?
Those would work in IB. How big is the rear deck on that t-bird? |

I've tried modeling them with winisd pro (with cabin gain) and all i can say is throw them out, yuch.
they are just revolting, nothing I do seems to make them look any good, to get anything close your looking at a sealed 50ltr MINIMUM each.
Good for loose sloppy boom and even thats being generous.

After some number crunching my calculator has given some way out of reason numbers....These drivers seem to have been engineered out of range of what would be considered "High-fidelity"...as a result I cannot seem to get any rational numbers for it.
Reverting to rule-of-thumb I'd say one large box of one inch thick medium density pressboard....48 inches long, eighteen inches deep, twelve inches high. Divide in half with a partition, two inch long screws every five and a half inches with a good wood glue, stuff it with a cotton batting (Easily found at a fabric store).
Find a car stereo place to put this "box carpet" over it...find some 10 inch "industrial" grills, a terminal box (Four total)....drop the drivers in it somewhat off-center onto the completed box, wire it up & your done!

what if i where to butt these up against each other in the push pull type configuration, does this make the enclosure much smaller.
also the deck of the tbird is large enough to hold these without an enclosure, is that best suited for these

www.pyleaudio.com show these in almost normal size boxes, these items are huge and heavy, its hard to believe they are so off. is any of these they show worth while to copy??

Isobarik will help yes.
Were not saying they wont go boom boom, just that from a point of being 'enjoyable musical bass' they will be lacking.
Dont spose you can measure the theil/small rather than rely on the crud they supply ??
Might put them in a different light.
Will be a good learning experience for your son. |

Yes lothar34 that is exactly the woofer he bought.
I have emailed both pyle and parts-express, just in case the spec has a typo , but i will try and measure it.
