Stuffing? - Click HERE for Original Thread
holdent
I'm in the process of completing a BIB and want to put stuffing from the driver to the closed end. I'm aiming for a density of 0.25 lbs/ft3 (based on sims) but have no idea how to go about achieving that. Do I weight a cubic foot of the pillow stuffing I have to calculate the density and then pull out the portion of that cubic foot that represents 0.25 lbs/ft3? If I want the stuffing to be 1.0 lb/ft3 but a cubic foot of the material I have only weights 0.6 lb/ft3 do I just compress more in the same space?

Lastly does anyone have a reference comparing various versions of stuffing including Acoustuff to fiberglass batts to wool to polyester? I've found all sorts of anecdotal things but mostly they are of the type "use enough stuffing until it sounds right". I'd like to be able to get in the ball park first with the right material and then fine tune by adding or subtracting small amounts of stuffing.

The man himself uses Dacron Hollofil II.

To compute the amount of stuffing needed, multiply the desired density by the volume it is supposed to occupy. Then weigh out the stuffing.

LOL, that's what i do. Certainly, when you decide at first how much to stuff... ration out the same amount for both speakers.

I say a reasonable amount up into the top of the closed end of the BIB... fluff it down until you get behind the driver... then listen.

If you feel you need more or the box is contributing too much to the sound... drop some into the bottom. I'd probably remove the driver, reach in and place some at the base of the cabinet.

Then start tuning to taste.

PS... this is how i stuff a cab... but i havnt stuffed a BIB yet so buyer beware.
