Car amplifiers are complex due to the power supplies for high power. A simple bridged circuit maxes out at 20W into 4 ohms, after that you need switched supplies. Or, you might come across an amp that just needs some basic repair like a busted volume control pot. It's a tricky supply, though; better would be a microcontroller-based PWM supply using an H-bridge FET configuration... if you can get the output filters right. I built that project 89 supply, though I haven't put much of a load on it to test it out. It's a little uneven from rail to rail, which makes me worry I wound the tranny with an extra coil on one rail. It is doable, though.
