I was about to order 120 BC549c transistors from Maplin. The price was reasonable. But, they either want or need to charge $86 as an "export charge" !!! That is 3X the cost of the parts I wanted. My question, is there anyplace I can get that part without buying 25,000 (Jameco) or 8000 (Digi-key) or pay $86 export tax?

How about 6 Cents a piece. Go to
http://www.bgmicro.com/
In the search window type BC549c. Off you go...
And shipping is only $6.50 i think.

Hi,
or buy the bc550c which is the same part but with a higher voltage rating.

It may be easier to source.

I forgot all about Newark and I guess Allied. Two of you suggest BGmicro, never heard of that one, I will look into them and the '550 as well. Thanks! This was getting really frustrating!

I just placed an order for 400 BC549c from BG Micro. I will advise the group of any problems. Thanks a lot to all!

My order arrived. It was delayed a little by two factors. They were out of stock, then I had to add money on my debt card. The nice thing is I called to find out what happend to my order. The lady handiling my order understood my desire for getting them faster, shipped them despite not getting an aproval on my credit card! A "Two Thumbs Up" on BG Micro!
