Automobile HID Bulb? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I'm going to give it a try. I believe the only problem would be the length/width of the arc, but we'll find out. I just won a ballast/bulb off ebay for $90, so if it doesn't work out, I'll just sell it.

It's a Phillips D2S with a Lexus ballast. The triplet is from a 3m overhead projector, as well as the fresnels.

Any thoughts?

I originally went with LEDs, but it just takes too many to cover a 15 inch Samsung 150mp. LEDs are totally doable on 7 inch or smaller LCDs, and can even be viewed with moderate ambient light. Any larger is just not efficient (besides the fact that they will pretty much never burn out.)

My ballast came a few days ago, and I just got to play around with it today.

With my previous setup, I only used 1 fresnel and a wall of LEDs. I do not have 2 fresnels, so I have to wait until I get a second.

I threw the HID bulb behind the screen just to try it out. I had about a 1/4 viewable screen with crystal clarity on the pixels. The room lighting was off. but the back of the projector was off too, so an entire wall was lit by the HID backwash. In turn, my screen was lit up, but I could still easily see the picture. I'm going to visit my gradeschool, to see if they would like to donate a projector for me to use the fresnels out of. They have invited me to show it to the kids when it is done!

I got my second fresnel lense today. I ran the bulb for about 10 minutes, and the cheap computer power supply I was using died. But I did have a corner to corner [BRIGHT] (compared to the LED version) picture. I'll update after I get a new power supply.

I am following your trials of the auto light. Can you post a picture or a diagram of how you have it wired?

Focused the picture today. I am using two differently shaped fresnel lenses right now, and the rings of one are really apparent on the screen. I've ordered another to match a pair. It should be here next monday. I'll post pics later next week.

The fresnel rings usually only show up on the projection if the fresnel is too close to the LCD. Your projection lens is focusing on the LCD, and anything else that is close to the LCD will be projected too. Move it about half an inch further away from the LCD.

Would both of them be too close, or only one?

Could be both, but try moving just the one on the projection lens side first.
