as titled, have seen troels's reference, not sure it suit my tastes http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/Ellam.htm
&
http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/W1500_97.htm
I think it may be the first cheap seas tweeter + expensive scan woofer project as the price difference between woofer and tweeter are such a big gaps.
Have already got a pair of seas TAF/G (H883) & scan speaker 15W/8530K00
and also an pair of cabinet which look every similar to a pair of speaker in troels' http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/W1500_97.htm (at the top). similar sise as well
I suspect the xover network for woofer are similar to troel's but not sure the tweeter's network.
haven't designed whether to use series or parallel crossover.
I want to acheive the best reference sound which should be as neutral enough, with wide and open as well as dynamic.
AImed for all kind of music.... Maybe too much demands...~~
just like all HIFI lover want.
pls pls help! I want to get best crossover componet as well as long as i can afford!
I am alone to finish this DIY project orginally, and has no testing microphone to help~ very need yours help!
THx so much to having interests in my post! |

sorry, it should be " the first project using seas tweeter + SS woofer, showing in this forum", but i have doubted my post that seas tweeter + SS expensive woofer (to me) is that first done. i think there must be some talent DIYplayer tried. but i am not sure two things can be combined perfectly, tonally correct.
i just found in this forum that Zaph audio new project: http://www.zaphaudio.com/ZD5.html
has used that vifa X25 instead, and they used floor stand cabinet..... And crossover designed used are parallel, zaph used an cap in series with woofer network. seems very different basic foundation in xovers between zaph and troels.
anyway, just want to get best crossover in this limited information |

Hi kwng11,
Though parallel xover is my preference, I'm not going to start a debate on parallel vs serious xover.....
If this is your first diy speaker project, do not spend much on xover component. Anything more expensive than Solen would be inappropriate. Save your money for a better cabinet, a rigid and resonance free cabinet.
Which area do you live? I can offer a little help on basic measurement. |

Oh~ seems good to meet u here, i live in Tsing Yi.
I have the cabinet aalready, i am quite sure it is tough (strong) enough to reduce certain vibration.
I have buy some of solens, SCRs and also some M-caps as example for testing...
I haven't deisgned to use which type yet, but M-cap is a little more detail i feel, but sole is much much cheap, anyway, the more i concern is the design of the network!
let's see any suggestion...
but if the matching of the 2 drivers won't be good, i will shift to use vifa XT25 for suiting the Zaph Audio DIY project as i think very expensive YG acoustic audio and Zaph seems showing they are the bets matching partners. |

Tsing Yi...... close to Disneyland?!
Both SS15W/8530, Seas27TAF/G and XT25 were wide band drivers without much peaking, both were good for 2-way. Technically speaking it wouldn't be difficult to bend them nicely.
I haven't seen any published diy design using 27TAF/G and SS8530 so far. I suggest u build the ZD5 instead. After all, the price for an XT25 would be less than a M-cap
I have build a few speaker using XT25, its build quality is quite consistant and measured very close to the official spec.

hey banana:
I have tried and tried, still heard that addition of M cap supreme silver(1uF) have come great to tweeter performance much, I just planed to get them anyway, maybe the money can be used to buy another tweeter, but i can't image the whole crossover use solen again, the differences is much when diff caps are used~
the whole woofer crossover part will use only M cap -MKP. so come up that only buying very expensive componety on tweeters, maybe it's too silly to work on the way, but i can expect what will happen in my a number of trial tests!
anyway, XT 25 is still another possible upgrade i will made, but i just have to try being with the seas first!
Thx for the info first |

kwng,
Let's go back to xover. You have to design your own xover, if 27TAFC/G is used. In this case parallel xover would be much easier. I suggest you use the low pass section of ZD5.
I have measured a pair of 27TAFC/G some years ago, the FS happened to be 600Hz instead of the specified 900Hz. It's a well build tweeter though.
To achieve LR2 2500Hz with 27TAFC/G, I guess you only need very few components, since it roll off quite early on the lower end. Skip the ladder delay, it's difficult to design without proper software tools. Tile back the baffle if necessary.
I live in Kowloon Bay :) |

Thx for the info posted, actually, i have testing some crossover set up in my limited available componet, all the ways i am doing is using troels directions:
http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/Diy_Lo...m#Acapella%20SE
and
http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/W1500_97.htm
the reasons is that i didn't see anything like ZD5 a month b4, it's just came out....
Maybe i needed an some inductors for his setting...
your info is very very much helpful indeed.
actually i have heard and (thought), if set as a parallel circuit, seas 27TAF/G should need something like 3.8 uf or above in the tweeter circult for an open and 3D sound . I have just tried 3rd orders for tweeter "cap(3.8 uf & 4.2 uf as well) + inductor + cap(11uF)", the result is more clean in lower treble, hope i discuss it correctly.
but may return to try reduced the number of cap to re-try the whole things
I will try troels series circuit in next
http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/W1500_97.htm
also, hope the 3.3 uF will be fined as well. i expected the crossover point is more deep making the tweeter more open and naturally loud
And i really want to compare with ZD5 circuit anyway. Anyway, it is not a short way to go |
