Hi again..
ive had a charlize amp from diyparadise for the last two months and have being very happy with it. Im starting to get the itch to upgrade and get some tubes into my system.
Im happy with the sound of the charlize but how much do you reckon id have to spend to better it? Would a chinise valve amp for 500 euros be close in quality/sound?
Part of the problem being ive never owned an amp that cost more than 300 euros second hand. The charlize is far superior to the other amps Ive tried.

Hi Ruaneg,
I've built Greg Balls 150W SKA amp and find it excellent for vey little money.
I have an SI t-amp with modded input caps & new output inductors - sounds great & detailed & initially impressive but SKA is easier to listen to long term & silky smooth.
I know you may be more interested in tube amps but the SKA is a cracker.

well i bit the bullet and bought a ming da mc-3r tube preamp. Cost 150euros and 150euros for delivery!! Im a little too impatient to wait 2 months for it to arrive so i went for express delivery.
I cant find anything bad about this amp and it seems its modified by response audio so i may be able to play around with it and even copy the upgrades theyve done on my own!!

anyway Im just curious what the fuss is about tubes..just hoping it doesnt raise my noise floor too much. .. . Now what tubes to buy

Don't worry about noise floor. And don't go nuts over tubes. Lots of high-price tubes are no better, sometimes worse, than many low-price tubes nobody wants. It's all about having the "right" brand. Octals usually cost more than novals, despite being inferior. So don't worry.
You won't get disappointed. Should you want more than you have later on, just build one. There are nine components per channel in a chip amp, if I'm correct. That's about the same number of components as in a SE EL34.
