some time ago I built this sub:
this was intended as a test project, to see how a TL built to the K+T recipe would sound, but I have it in use in my HT for almost half a year now, it realy sounds that good. total costs were ~100 euro.
I choose the 6x9 woof because it would enable a narrow sub that would fit under the sofa in the living. probably somewhere this year it will end up there I guess....
key figures: straight TL, cross section 110% of the total Sd, L=2.2m, woofers positioned at 1/3 and 1/5 of the line. almost without any stuffing, only a little bit at both ends of the line

Very nice. What Tang Band woofers were used? I figured it was only a matter of time before someone tried these in a Transmission Line -- since they bear a resemblance to the famous KEF B139. I have thought about doing the same thing with their 8"x10" woofers. Having a sub that you can fit in a narrow space doesn't hurt, either.

I used the W69-1042.
It was a surprise to me how well these performed. I used the rule-of-thumb design from the german magazine Klang+Ton and then adjusted it a bit using MLK's MathCAD sections sheet. main change of that was that I left out almost all of the stuffing and a small increase in cross section.
I have not done any measurements yet, but by listening it feels like the will easily do 30Hz. (I measured my Peerless CB woof and that one does with a small boost from the amp 35Hz straight, and the TL sounds like it will go a bit lower (without boost)) |

| I think that this would be a good subwoofer for anyone who wants to hide their sub in a corner behind a piece of furniture. If I didn't already have something else in mind for my parents' home theater (they just bought their first HD set, and first new TV in 12 years), I'd probably build this. I'm thinking of experimenting with a daline enclosure for a Tang Band 5" ultra long-throw subwoofer driver for that particular use, but I like your use of unconventional drivers to suit your purpose. |
