5Z4P rectifier tube question - Click HERE for Original Thread

Can I use (2) 5Z4P tubes in place of the 5AR4 tubes in my Quicksilver 8417 amp?

Each mono block 8417 has two 5AR4 rectifiers.

Hi burnedfingers ,

It is not a good idea , because the 5Z4 max. out. current
is only a half of 5AR4 capacity ( 125 mA versus 250 mA )

The max . input RMS voltage is 350 V AC for 5Z4 versus
550 V AC for 5AR4 .

The 5AR4 / GZ34 is a very easy to find tube , with many
manufacturers .

In time ...

If the voltage is not a problem ( lower than 350 V AC ) ,
you will need 2 x 5Z4 , in the place of one 5AR4 , to
have the same current capacity .

Carlos

Carlos,

Thanks for the info. I will look for some 5AR4's.
