are the NE5532n and LM833 opamps a drop in replacement for each other?

other than that, anyone have any experience with the sound characteristics of different manufacturer NE5532n?

im asking because i thought i could hear a difference between a philips and a Ti...or am i just imagining things? :xeye:

if im not going crazy, i felt that the Ti wasnt as full sounding.

The LM833 has a very different circuit.

NE5532s from different makers will have similar spec and internal circuit, but as they come from different wafer fabs the performance of the internal components will be very different. This also means that the same chip from one maker will vary when the production is moved to a new fab, as often happens over the years.

thats what i suspected on both cases, kinda wondering why ST would put an LM833 as the nearest match.

now, i have to figure out how to get some samples overseas

thanx!
