I'm looking at a installing a fully integrated home automation system at my home. I want to be able to access audio and video files located on a central server, access CCTV cameras, control heating and air conditioning, electric gate closers and alarm systems.
There are commercial products out there that go some way to achieving this but none that i recall that include all options (not in the UK anyway) so i'm thinking of how i might go about building one.
My thoughts are that i would use ethernet with various I/O controllers located around the building each with it's own IP address - Any areas that i can't easily cable i can install a wireless bridge. I think i have seen adverts for ethernet based controllers, but cannot recall where - I googled and found some industrial PLC controllers but they were too expensive for my application, any URL's or other information for a suitable controller would be greatly appreciated.
