to sum up both my threads on the 'OB Sub', '8" Full Range' and 'WoW', i think i will go for....

Omnes Audio L8 in OB with some bass support in the form of two Eminence Alpha 10's per side.

one question, could my sub amp from my Tannoy ts8 drive an 8Ohm load, it currently has 200w into 4Ohm, sent tannoy an email and they advised that i do not take the sub apart and not to experiment lol!

what i plan to do is to buy the L8 first and use that for a while with my exising sub, and if/when i feel the need to expand, put in the woofers... and cross them on the sub amp at 80Hz

i chose the Alpha 10's as they are very cheap (£22), highish QTS-0.59, lowish fs-50Hz, 97dB and around 2-3mm of xmax..

is this a good plan? :D

How about the beta 15? It's around £45 but has about 4mm x-max and more cone area than two 10" drivers.

i dont need that much bass though, mabye the Alpha 12 would be better, just one per side, QTS 0.77, Fs 49Hz, Xmax 2.4mm, 95dB....
i am in a rented house come october so i wont need to shake the walls (and wont be able to), just need down to about 60Hz ish really.

ok, will be ordering the L8's once i have got some money (next week at the latest).

does anyone know why not many, if any, people have used this driver in OB and written about it?

can anyone read german?

From the SpectrumAudio website-

any specifc opinions on them?

Only Validator has tested the L8 in OB and didn't like it. The recommandation is ca. 30 Litre aperiodic enclosure.

Nothing about OB

Methe liked it in OB, but it sounds like he's gonna build a reso or aperiodic enclosure with an additional omnidirectional supertweeter.

I can't translate that, to techy. Basicly it says, the copper phaseplug reduces distortion and improves the high frequencies.

If you want to have more specific info, I would email Methe, he seams to be a friendly person who speakes englisch.

hope that helps,

Look at Martins plotted performance for 1 Alpha 15.
The Alpha 10s are about $43 here and the 15s are about $58. Less expensive and probably better performance(lower Qts and Fs). And for $30 more, you could use 2 and double the output and have even higher efficiency.

Just a thought.

i know this is the wrong way about it, but would it (the L8) work in an aperiodic vented 17L box for a while?

cos i have a pair of Wharfedale Linton 2 boxes spare that would fit them, and if i could use them for a while, that would be good.....

or even just take the back out.....

i dunno lol

or any other really cheap full-ranger, just as a quick fun project;)
