I'd like to build a sailboat racing timer... - Click HERE for Original Thread

Well, all I know is that I would use 555 timer IC's and the rest is a mystery....

It's a count down timer for small boat racing that operates like this...

Need three, 1 second pulses at initial start (@ 3 minutes)
Two, 1 second pulses one minute later (@ 2 minutes)
One, 1 second pulse one minute later (@ 1 minute)
Three, half second pulses 30 seconds later (@ 30 seconds)
Two, half second pulses 10 seconds later. (@ 20 seconds)
One, half second pulse 10 seconds later (@ 10 seconds)
Four 1/4 second pulses every one second, 5 seconds later (@ 5 seconds)
One one second pulse at -0- seconds.

Anybody...

sounds like something easier accomplished with a computer.

or else, multiple circuits. one circuit to do all that could get hairy. maybe have one circuit firing, start another...?

Computer is not a possiblility... Too wet, too much exposure to elements.

Cascaded 555's/556's is certainly a possibility.

I'd have thought a PIC or similar would be ideal for that application.

Pink... where do I get started on a PIC?

I made a very similar thing for photographic processing many years ago, based on cascaded 555s. Easy and effective - just make sure that the ICs are adequately decoupled, or they may 'go off' on the wrong pulses!

7217, 4017, 4541, MM5369 will come handy in such design
