I just had a look at Toms Hardware for the first time in months
and found they were presenting the first motherboard for
AMDs ClawHammer CPUs. This particular board had built-in
sound with 3-channel valve output! There have been a few
boards for other CPUs using valves , but I found it quite surprising
the very first one for the new series of 64-bit CPUs should
be equipped with valves. Probably just a marketing gimmick,
though. |

I haven't really followed the story, but Hammer is the family of
of 64-bit CPUs and then there will be several subfamilies or
types, eg. ClawHammer and SledgeHammer. I think they
originally said the first version would be SledgeHammer, but
then decided to delay that one somewhat and start with
ClawHammer. I haven't catched up with the ongoing story, but
I think SledgeHammer is intended for servers and ClawHammer
for workstations, but I may be wrong there. |

It was soooo powerful it was inconceivable that anyone would use one on a desktop. :D That being the case, I wonder how long it is till we see SledgeHammers on smartcards and remote controls. It sounds ridiculous at the present doesn't it? I'm eagerly waiting the day that these supercomputers are going to start getting thrown to the rubbish tip! Oh yeah. :) |

They have a wee bit of power reduction to deal with first.
(I bet the fool thing sucks down about 60 to 75 A at 1.5 V or something like that )
It's hot in here.
