Happy Birthday! United States of America - Click HERE for Original Thread
poobah
I know we have issues... and this should NOT be a political thread...

We have done a good deed or two, now and then.

Please wish the USA a happy 230th!
Cal Weldon
Happy birthday USA.

We speak no evil on your day of independance, please enjoy. :drink:

Signed,
Your cousins to the north
poobah
And our best to you! We're all in this together!

Thanks Cal

We'll have a nice Bastille Day celebration next week, too.

To the British members: sorry for that spot of unpleasantness 230 years ago, but really, that George III was something of a twit.

Easy there big guy... there's more than one with a musket still loaded on our behalf...

Happy birthday to the USA, but man...what a difference.

When I grew up, we in germany looked towards the USA as the land that promised freedom (and prosperity)...what a few years can change.

Well, we will crack out a bottle of the best Bordeaux Friday next week -- after all Saratoga would not have been possible without their intervention -- but for this evening it's some of Kentucky's finest while we watch the fireworks.

fwiw -- I have been enjoying (quite) the Muscadet "sur lie" for $7.99 -- must visit the Loire valley this October.
SY
If you like Muscadet, don't miss Marc Ollivier. The Loire is fabulous, a beautiful and historic region with terrific wine.

We're drinking American tonight, some Lane Tanner Pinot Noirs, Mick Unti's Syrah, and Sierra Vista Viognier. If we're feeling generous, we might crack one of our Ridge Monte Bellos, probably the last '77 in the rack. Tomatoes are just starting to get good, so we're making caprese with some heirloom varieties and a local bufala mozzerella. Grilled porcini. Morel risotto. Terrine of asparagus and local chevre. Dessert is grilled Frog Hollow peaches with pepper.

Not bad, not bad.

Well, that has me drooling SY :) Enjoy the celebrations

There are still a whole bunch of us here that won't let that dream die.

Happy birthday to my home!!!

Either a twit, or very clever. He sent over a useless commander and only a fraction of the troops he could have...

Happy birthday for yesterday. Any good fireworks? :)

Yo've got your work cut out.....nevertheless, I hope you had a nice party.
Christer
Happy Birthday,

Don't worry Poobah, most of us like you. The issues we might have are usually minor ones or temporary ones when there are major events in the world.

I spent 4th of July in Washington DC 20 years ago, sitting on the stairs of the Capitol, listening to a Rostropovich concert and watching the most extravagant fireworks I have ever seen. You sure know how to celebrate. We swedes really have nothing in particular to celebrate. It is rather one or a few other countries celebrating that they threw us out. :)

don't be sad - your king gustavus adolphus still has a good name among german lutherans....

Enjoy the celebrations, folks.

(thank god we got rid of you troublemakers 330 something ago. :clown: )

Oh, yes. Any decent fireworks are thoroughly illegal here. Fortunately, my cooking/drinking partner is a fire captain and we had a wonderful selection of confiscated fireworks to play with.

Nice to hear, but I don't think he really meant to occupy Germany, just convert it. That was a war about religion. The funny thing is that although Sweden was the first country to turn Lutheran, king Gustav Vasa didn't do that so much for religious reasons, but to be able to confiscate the treasures of the catholic church in Sweden. Then his ancestors started to make wars about the religion.

Gee, a bit late.

But, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

You are bothers, there is more than one family with members on both sides of the border. Mine included.

SY, you can always tell them the loud noises were corks. :devilr:
