I hear there is a temporary problem. Please stand by.......

A belt drive CD? I have my doubts on that working well with eccentric discs. They have to change speed quickly. Track search may be an issue as well.

Good luck on it!

hmmmhnm. looks very interesting, these belt drives! I might try to build one myself to...

actually, i'm wondering if it's possible to replace the ****** plastic DVD unit in my Pioneer DV-588A. It reads OK, but runs very noisy:whazzat:

the drive has A2G512A650 label and is marked as Orion.

does anyone has some experince with replacing original unit with some better equivalent (into different box ofcourse)? Is it good idea?
anatech
Hi hayena,
You may want to keep the same head and motors. The servo constants are tuned to these. The disc motor ought to be fun, but it can be done.

hayena
Thanks for reply, Chris.
So there is no chance to use different laser pickup with similar specs (eg. Sanyo 24pin dual laser ) connected to the main board?

Another story, I probably broke the laser head and the service told me they replace only the whole DVD unit (with the same s**t) costing almost the new player does:rolleyes:

Hi hayena,
No, you can't use a different head without a lot of work. Just the focus and tracking servo tuning alone!

And that's why I sold my shop. I'll bet you can find your player on sale for less. Sorry for the bad news.

Your head may still be okay. What did you do?

-Chris
hayena
oh, nevermind. thanks for excellent comment!
don't know what happened actually. just felt on the floor and now there is no rays or anything going on:)
anatech
Hi hayena,
That's sad. Sorry to hear about that. Have a look for obvious faults like a cracked PCB or plug off.

I wish you luck.

-Chris
karma
well i replaced the motor with good results, mind you i tested different parts and motors on the bench before i came up with something that worked. so no its not for everyone only if you have a box of cd player parts to work with;)

when its finished i will have proof it works by seting up a tv:D

heh no high speed wobble;)

This wasn't suppose to be an ultimate drive.

I wanted it to be easy and fast exchangable with original drive in my (at that time long ago) CD player. That is why I built it that way based on existing drive (actually I bought the second same drive and converted it). Exchanging standard drive for the belt one took only four screws and two tapes, just 2 minutes.

The diffranace it made in the sound really blew me. I couldn't belive and I did not expect even 1/10th of it.

A lot work with finding proper weight of the disk clamp and proper sizes of the belt driving wheels to work it good.
karma
well final test before i finish puting it together, and it plays dvd's.
spins up fast. not that i need it for dvd's but it shows it can work;)
