What type# has your amp?

Hi -

"surge" sound on turn-on may mean that your amplifier is giving out a DC offset at its speaker terminals. Take a VOM and measure. A normal amp should have pretty close to zero DC volts, a few mV to a few tens of mV offset should be ok.

Scratchy sound could be bad potentiometers, bad switches, or bad transistors (usually in the amplifier's front-end, if discrete)...

Netlist is right - the model# of your amp would provide some with the knowledge of exactly what kind of amplifier design your unit has, and could give a better idea of the problem...

Cheers!
