I just made an RCA-minijack cable and am having problems with it.
I wired it in this fashion:
Minijack TRS: Tip - Left channel, Ring - Right channel, Sleeve - ground
RCA Left: Centerpin - goes to tip of minijack, Ring - goes to ground (common with right RCA connector at the minijack, they are soldered together)
RCA Right: Centerpin - goes to ring of minijack, Ring - goes to common ground
My multimeter shows connections to the proper places and no shorts.
The problem is this: Only the left channel works. Did I wire this incorrectly or what could be the issue?

I've done this a few times (example). Your wiring scheme is correct (tip=left, ring = right, other part (base) = ground). Sometimes the minijack plugs can be no good, they are super cheapo quality. Once I had a new one from digikey and it measured open circuit to the ring to all leads no matter what I tried. So check the tip-to-lead and ring-to-lead connections (better yet to the end terminals). If these are good it should work.
Or else your source is mono and not stereo, in which case you know what to do! |

| I guess next time I should triple check. Turns out the ring solder terminal in the minijack was just barely touching the sleeve causing a short. Ugh. I had to use a cheaper minijack than I wanted to because I accidentally ordered a mono minijack instead of stereo. Thanks. |
