Good sounding room Bas?

Sorry Bas, but this room does not look like a listening room for me, at least not for pleasure. It looks a bit overdamped, more like a mastering studio (without the tools). Olthough the room is beautiful within itself, I doubt that I could listen for an extended period without getting claustrophobical feelings. This looks like a demo room of a highly sophisticated highend company, something which gives me a headache. I can almost hear the "hifi sound" in this room. Is it musically satisfying? Did you listen yourself?

No did you? It seems to me that you have more pre-conceived ideas about the sound of the room than I have. Because I have no idea about the sound of the room.

But I do know that this room was made specifically for listening and that he spent months of research. Apart from the the fact that audiophiles spend thousands on cables but little on the room. The reason I posted this picture is purely for visual enjoyment.
lohk
Did I say that? Of course not, but I have been in similar rooms. It is perfectly ok that you like that room, do not get me wrong, I just expressed my feelings (I also looked at the preposterous webpage). But do you use your loudspeakers in such overdamped rooms?

I really don't feel like discussing the acoustic properties of a room I have never been to. Especially since I have zero knowledge of room acoustics.

That room looks bigger than my house! :)

Correction. This room was designed by Rives Audio. Or more specifically Chris Huston, of 'Rives Audio' who was a musician, a recording engineer, a record producer, a studio designer, an acoustical engineer, an acoustical teacher, and a 2-channel room designer.

That rooms IS bigger than my house. :D

Because of all the complaints about how bad that room possibly sounds...I went looking for some more info

Here is a story on the room by positive feedback

http://www.positive-feedback.com/Is...lavigneroom.htm

An excerpt from that interview:

"A conductor friend (who is also an audiophile) brought over a few of his own recordings to listen to... now here is someone with a correct reference. After an hour or so and three or four of his recordings, he turned to me and said, “Yes, that is the way it was.""

The coolest thing is the single listening chair. This guy doesn't need anyone's approval :)

I don't know how it sounds, but I like the spirit of this listening room:

I'm afraid I agree with your sentiments. Virtually no natural light, utterly bland to look at (apart from lumps of Hi-Fi) and only one chair. No, it doesn't look like a room designed for shared pleasure.

And that chair looks suspiciously like leather, in which case, there will be some nasty HF reflections off it directly back to the listener's ears. Leather chairs might look nice but they're not a good idea when sound is involved. Trust me on this.

That I agree with 100%. When I saw the solitary chair I thought to myself ...what an aural onanist...

But where did I ever say it was?

In fact whenever I visit someone with a dedicated audio room I think to myself. I'm glad that I can listen to my music with my loved ones roaming around me.

Nevertheless. The point of this thread it to show us what YOUR listening room looks like or point to OTHER ones you like.

I like the room I posted for it sheer purposefulness and dedication. There is a huge difference between the amps I like to see. Electronluv or Peter Daniel's to name a few. And the one's I build. Which resemble apple crates.

There is also a huge difference between the car I own and the car I'd like to have. And I'm sure that the car I would like, would make me a ****** to some. A boring fart to others.

So what I'd like is to see other rooms that might capture my imagination. Or that other posters may enjoy looking at.

You have obviously not heard my leather clad interconnects or else thou would not protest the use of leather thus.
JSprague
I'll bet the black leather interconnects sound more exciting, but nastier than the tan leather ones!

Actually I have not compared them yet:D I got the tan leather ones for my birthday. But the black leather ones have a signal cable of 75% gold 15% silver and 10% copper with silver bullet plugs. So I had to pay costprice ... and fortunately not the labour costs.

Now I only have one question for you! HOW DID YOU KNOW I had black leather ones and tan leather ones!!!!

Are there any restaurants like this in the US? There should be.

Currently modding 2A3, 100 WPC EL-34 and Phono-pre units and building some Peter Daniel GCs.

May be acquiring 800 lbs of 98 dB efficient line-arrays. (Yikes. :yikes: )

Large volume loft space, a bit live, but sounds great in the sweet spot...

(The skylight retracts for listening while suntanning or under the stars.)

Isolation rack...

Dare I ask why there is an industrial rope and tackle thingy hanging above your coffee table? Does it have anything to do with your definition of 'sweet spot' ?

The building is from the 40s, the steel beams/redwood roof are great, and they and the cathedral skylight provide good diffraction and diffusion.

The chain hoist near the brick wall hefts a 35" TV. (See photo...)

Before renovation, the place had such block and tackle for moving around steel. I like the look, and surely it does something to the sound dispersion...

Hi,
May as well post my mess of a living room. It does invite company to move around and enjoy. I like to do book work in here sometimes.

Ah, complete with guard dog! :D

Does the piano right between the speakers give rise to sympathetic resonant increase in noise floor ?

I have a Hammond organ in my upstairs listening area and whenever I touch the keys I hear a "pathetic resonant increase in noise floor" :D
anatech
Hi Rob,
It's just really very heavy. An 80 year old piano made in Toronto that needs to be restored. Sound board was intact last I saw. It seems to be inert for the most part. I does do a great job of holding the gear off the floor, and some CD's we are too lazy to put away.

Sounds not too bad in there. The room is about 15' X 20'. It's all I got.

Wow, stick a video screen in that first room Bas posted and I would be in heaven. I don't really know if the sound would be perfect, but the overall "feel" of the room is incredible. The asthetics alone would make me enjoy the experience! Still, I would enjoy a cooshie chair rather than the leather. :D But that is just preference!

I like the room in the first post. With a little more work it could turn into a room of art collections.

Something tells me the owner of that room would rather stick pins under his nails than a video screen.

A friend of mine just visited this system.

This system is apparently designed specifically to play organ music.

To quote my friend, "The bass extension goes down to 12Hz at -3dB. There's a technique for playing an organ where two adjacent 32' pipes are played together, giving the sensation of a 5Hz note. This room was shaking at 5Hz!"

http://www.dougronald.com/sound_images.htm

Wall of Sound Website

LOTS of 30" woofs, infinite baffle into the next room...

Something tells me you are right, but that's why he won't get to design my listening room/den (since I obviously don't have the sort of cash flow he does to have a room dedicated solely to stereo listening!) I think on his web page he indicated he has a separate HT room. That would be interesting to compare and contrast. Obviously he would want more than one recliner. . .

I believe Kristin is 172 cm tall instead of 142 cm.
The woofers look like they do good bass, I'm not sure about the room though.
