Hi All,
Does coating the optics in a lense with anti-reflective coating mean a better light transmission through the lens? |

I didn't want to start another thread to ask this but - can you buy an anti-reflection agent to coat a lens?

| I've looked into it and it seems that a single MgFl2 is the coating of choice for basic anti-reflective coatings (you can have of course multi layer which give a better transmission). As far as I know the coating has to be applied in some kind of complicated evaporation chamber, which kinda rules out homebrew coating. Local opticians will provide a basic MgFl2 coating service, however they are none to keen on concave surfaces in my town for some reason :confused: |

When I got presciption optics for the first time, anti-glare was an option and I thought it was just another upsell. It works a treat, so was thinking of using it on the flat surfaces of the prisms based anamorphics lens I have made.
The reason I was hoping for some spray on application, it that after a few years of cleaning my glasses, the coating is coming off, and there are now patches that reflect light and I would prefer not to have to send them (both my glasses and the prisms) away fot treatment...
