Changing filter cap in HH Scott - Click HERE for Original Thread
cwerner
I recently aquired an old HH Scott 233 (similar to 299c) with what looks to be original tubes, doing a visual inspection before the first soft start, I noticed the filter cap after the power supply had died. This is one of those multi section caps in the metal can. It's rated at 20-20-20-20 at 500v, the best replacement I can find (besides restuffing or mounting underneath) is a 30-20-20-20 525v. It should be possible to use the 30mfd section to actually help the filtering right? What connection do you think would make the best use of the 30mfd? Thanks.

Hello!

It would be better to use the 30uF unit in place of C204 or downstream, just NOT C205 or C206. The GZ34 could handle that increased capacity (since it has already a resistor in series), but I won't stress it on purpose.

Well C205 and C206 are paralleled for 40uF, pretty much the maximum with a GZ34 with this kind of current draw.

You would be best advised to put it on C204, the next one 'downstream'.
