Every forum has it's set of rules and if you want to play, you have to follow them. I regularly use colourful language and not being able to express that here is not an issue.

A freedom of speech thing maybe????

I did not expect member Steve Eddy to advocate a boycott of our forum.
Not for something as trivial as some forbidden xxxx words here.
Even if 'bad words lists' can at time be quite absurd at many boards.

Looking at Steve Eddy many postings here
I get the impression he is a mature and sensible man
and has a true passion for diy audio.

I hope he will change his mind.
A boycott of www.diyAudio.com for such minor reasons, as for most any other reason,
hasnt got a shadow of a chance to be successful.

In my opinion -
will be like an ant using violence
trying to put an elephant to the ground!

Steve Eddy replied later with a link to a thread explaining it all. Meh. For what it's worth, true the filter can be a bit puritan but in contrast to the absolute sewers some other forums have become - check rec.audio.tubes or pretty much any other Usenet audio group - I'll take the coddling.

Anyway, the diyAudio.com that I'm boycotting I'm boycotting because I got fed up with their language restrictions and would like to see them changed

it just goes to show that in some cases eugenics should be legalized.

Wow, that was a surprise to me. No Steve Eddy! What will the iron manufacturers do now that there is no one recommending their use everywhere possible! :)

P.S. That was a joke, he's a solid guy.

Steve is a fine guy, totally honest, one whom I consider a good friend and who has profoundly influenced my design work. I hope he'll decide to come back at some point.

I think anyone who is edjumacaded:clown: enough to build and aid in design of electronic equipment should be intelligent and lingual enough to convey thier ideas in a way to navigate around the language restrictions.(and I don't mean the use of symbols for letters) It adds more of a professional quality to the forum.;)

My main reason for inquiring was I found SE's posts such a benefit and was sorry to see he'd left. It's somewhat of a disappointment to find the loss was over something ultimately so minor.

its strange that someone would get so mad about not being able to curse. if anything, not being able to use a limited amount of words allows a person to come up with more creative methods of description...

i liked the guy, but its the STUPIDEST reason possible to leave a forum. so he doesnt get to say ****. bummer.

I have to say that I have been reading these fora for some time now and have enjoyed Steve's comments.
However to stop contributing because you can't use foul language in a public forum does not place you high in the credibility department.
