Hi, i'm new here and have absolutely no knowledge regarding speaker design. I don't know if this relates to this forum or not, but i read few pots her and ther and looks like you guys know enough to start your own speaker manufactoring companies. So here are my questions.
I found two pairs of spekars one is Spendor SA350 2-way active, the other one is Klein+Hummel O-98 3-way, active as well. Both are made only to work under 220v. My question is how easy it will be to convert internal amps into 110v? And will it be worth it? My second choice is to use step down transformers, but I don't know how it will effect the performance of internal amps? I'm unable to get and schematics for those speakers, both are discontinued models.

Hi,
disconnect from the mains and open up to see the mains transformer.
Identify if the transformer has two primary windings or just one.
If only one then it is for 220Vac to 240Vac only.
If two primaries, then connecting them in series. This gives a 220Vac to 240Vac transformer.
Connecting them in parallel will give you a 110Vac to 120Vac transformer.
Be carefull when connecting a two primary transformer to keep the windings in phase or you could damage the transformer before the mains fuse blows. |
