I am new to DIY speakers, but I think I understand the basic principles of a subwoofer.

I want to build an active subwoofer, and as I see it. An active subwoofer consists of 3 key parts.

- An amplifier with filters and boost
- A woofer
- And a box.

I will primarily use the sub for a large home theater system, but it should also be able to play music with out sounding booming.

In the ideal situation you would by identify the 3 parts before you by them, so you know that they will give a descent result.

I on the other hand already have 2 of the parts:
- A beyma
18G50 http://www.usspeaker.com/beyma%2018G50-1.htm
- A sub amp SAM-2 http://monacor.com/de/FLE/SAM2.pdf
see page 7-9

My question is: What box should I build to make a decent sub out of the above components?

The maximum size of the box should be 0.8 meter * 0.6 meter * 0.5 meter and it is not a problem if it is smaller

I would love to hear some suggestions

Download Unibox or WinISD, and experiment with some different size boxes, sealed & ported.
