crackling sound CDM4 - Click HERE for Original Thread
Thomas Hage
I have a problem with my CD player. It is a CDM4/31 type mounted in B&O Beocenter 8000.

It plays perfectly for apporx. 30 minutes. After that the sound distorts and crackling sound occurs in the high frequencies.

Does anyboy have an idea wht the problem can be? and how to fix it.

Thanks,

Thomas

Sounds like a DAC problem to me. What DAC(s) is/are used in B&O Beocenter 8000 ? Is the crackling noise only in one channel ?

Hi Thomas,
If you cool the circuit off, does it play longer before it starts? Removing the cover (difficult on B&O) may do this.

I have seen everything from the brown glue cause this to digital filters, DSP chips and DACs. Mistracking may also cause distorted sound, as will a low HF signal.

Can you record the sound in a sound file (ie MP3) and attach? This may give us more clues.

Jean-paul,

A TDA 1541 DAC is used.

The crackling sound is on both channels.

Use the freeze spray! Spray just a short burst on to 1541 and I bet the crackling noise will disappear.

Good luck,

Exactly.

If the TDA1541A is the problem and you really like the cdplayer you could replace the chip for a silver crown version.

I would advise you to replace all electrolytic caps too after you have solved this crackling noise problem.
