Hi all,Can a dipole sub be used in a car?
Thanks Y'all mikee55:confused:

I would think not, however for the benifit of science (and my own curiosity) I will now perform a quick expriment:smash:

you could do anything ... but will it sound good ...

I used an old H-frame with a 12'' driver, it wouldn't fit in the boot so I put it on the back seat, it did produce bass but in such a low amplitude to be completely not worth the effort, a vented 8'' in the boot would be (literally) an order of magnitude louder.

I'd say we can safely strike off dipole bass in the automotive environment :D

I'll second the opinion of volenti,

There will simply be too much canceleation of front and rear waves.

Dipole lacks any advantage in the car environment anyhow... The longest dimension inside of a vehicle is very short compared to that of a room and thus modes will not occur until a much higher frequency. The irregular shape of a car's interior will also cut down on modes.

is there any reason to use a car sub in a hometheater setup ?
just wondering...

Well, if you have some extras lying around which you dont plan to use in your car then you could use them for your HT. I wouldnt buy car subs for HT use however unless you were getting a good deal on something with a lowFS, high Xmax, high SD, and high power.

Since dipole bass depends on room size it depends on how large your strechted limo is:
