Any ideas or theories about the easiest way? Topology, linear, switch mode? Cheapest and simplest design?

Has the output to be isolated?

You need exactly 120 V
or would it be okay with 100 or 140 VDC

Best if you tell what you will power with it.

It will be used to power a ARF473 RF Power MOSFET RF amplifier in the 144Mhz range with 300 to 500W output possible. I would assume it should be isolated. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Use a 1:1.41 ratio transformer followed by rectifer and caps. If you need regulated power you might have to adjust the ratio to get a slightly higher voltage.

Perhaps not the cheapest solution, but simplest (oh well, you have to find such a transformer).

I'm just curious, do you have a working FM amplifier built around that dual MOSFET, or are you planning to build it?

Hey Eva,

Please e-mail me and I will fill you in on what I am working on. I respect your status on this forum and I appreciate all of the help you give to everyone. You are plainly a master in electronics theory and design. I am planning to build this amp and a suitable power supply.
