This is a hand made, fullrange driver...

There are some parameters:
Continuous power: 30W
Magnet system: Alnico
Fr. Res.: 40-20500 (8dB); 50-15000 (3.5dB)
Sensitivity: 98dB/W/m
choky
basket (or frame)seems came from mother russia ;)

or just same roots...
widowmaker
Chassis is an aluminium moulding, but not from Russia :D
Geek

Like Lowther, but with bass :D
BWRX
That's awesome. What are the cone, phase plug, and surround made of?

And where did you source the parts from (voice coil former, spider, alnico magnet, etc.)? (Maybe that's a secret) Now you can tell everyone that you have one-of-a-kind drivers :)
johninCR
Let us know when they will be available for purchase and pricing....hopefully factoring in Bulgarian labor pricing, not a lowther sound with bass.

Do you have any measurements and/or T/S parameters ?

It's still in progress...

I received this from Kiril Kirilov:

quote:

The cost is following:
Ether 5 with cobalt magnetic system: 225 euro per item
Ether 6 with cobalt magnetic system: 275 euro per item
Ether 7 with cobalt magnetic system: 900 euro per item
Note: This is cost for single unit without VAT and any package and
transport expenses.
VAT tax in Bulgaria is 20% (so far).

Anyone know the sensitivity of the Ether5, 6, 7? Unfortunately they don't have an English version of their site.
badman
Hard to know what to make of these drivers. They could be some of the best around, but without full information, and in english.... they're going to have an AWFULLY hard time selling at these prices. My money would go into Fostex, AER, or Lowther, until a little more history and knowledge was established with these.....

They look slick though. If the manufacturer wants to send me samples, I'll gladly test them :)
gps
one Ether ;) www.vissokogovoriteli.plc.bg/products/VKN-10211_311.htm another Ether ;) http://www.vissokogovoriteli.plc.bg...K-12251_351.htm ...this produkt Ether is ....home-made or garage-made ;) with part from "Low-Fi"drivers from here www.vissokogovoriteli.plc.bg ..............."like Lowther but with bass" -big joke ;) :D Widowmaker wich Lowther`s model listen you;) :D ???Where???When???;) ;) ;)

60dB drop in the top octave wow. And what's with the weird scaling?
Crossblade
:att'n:

gps is an enemy of the Ether drivers (I don't know if he has heard them) and their manufacturers, so keep in mind the information posted by him can be prejudiced and unreal in order to serve his (and his friend's) interests.

He's trying to ruin with words the thing that other have done with labour.

:att'n:

Weird scaling is just a dream IMHO!
It isn't described the way it is derived and with what...

Hi,

Very nice work you got there   Just wondering how's the bass from the BLH . Do you get a lot of bass ?..... Thanks.
gps
O.K. boys.....where is Ehter`s official site ???? Frequency response/impedanse ? Full T/S parameters ? Dimensions&mounting information ? All world wait for information ;) ;)
tashov
The bass is good enough- real 20Hz. The pressure depends on the room. In 17 sq. meters its quite good. In 50 sq. meters- unbearable;)
Zen Mod
I like what I see

but why I have impression that some local (BG) fight is transfered here?
analog_sa
FWIW i listened to a pair once in unfamiliar surroundings. Magnets were not Alnico; maybe neodimium or cobalt. To my ears they sounded more balanced and listenable than Lowthers; somehow they avoided the shrieky upper mids and may indeed have better bass.

A friend in NY with DX-3 bought a pair and was less enamoured. He felt the Lowthers are faster and more communicative. Then again he's never been really bothered with the Lowther's peakiness and complete absence of bass.

In any case the Ethers seem to offer great value.

Forgot one more project with Ether 5 Alnico Magnet:

I confest, valves GU50 Triode mode, Push Pull Full Class A without grid current, without metal caps are from Russia
;) But Know how is from Bulgaria :-)

One more amp with Russian valves GU81M :-)

Neat Hifi scene there, it would appear :)
salas
And a neat intro in a an attempt to make a small fortune (for BG) over a probably delivering assortment of driver bits and pieces that cost faaaarrrr lower locally. But that's healthy market spirit isn't it? Yes, but I don't like it in a DIY forum based on information exchange between enthusiasts.
Lagroute
Do you REALLY think that it costs 7000 $ to make a REPS or 1000$ to make a Supravox 215-2000 ?

Have a look on Veravox, what do you get for your money ?

They all are here to make money, guys, that's the commercial world ...

I think Ether drivers are far from being the worst quality/ price ratio.

Of course I haven't listened.

Did I say that? I said healthy market spirit! I don't like using DIY audio for commerce I wrote.
Lagroute
Then please excuse me.

Seems I overreacted a little.

But they're just showing a new fullrange speaker and everybody attacks them. they aren't trying to sell BG drivers so what is the problem ?
salas
They say nothing substantial about its technical profile, they fight about, just posting pics. Its an obvious blatant plug. I don't like the style. As for trying to sell it, they have posted pricing earlier, an 'offer' as they put it. Come on, not trying to sell it!!!
widowmaker
The simply explanation for me is just one word:
Envy

We (GR & BG) are balkan people and this is our most important "virtue"
:-D
My dear neightbour from GR, please excuse my spontaneous revelation :)
salas
Don't transport local envious 'fights' here. It detracts from a probably good product and derates the lively local FR&Horn diy scene.

Hi Kiril!

Any chance you could put some pictures of your Ether horns here?

By the way, I heard those speakers at Kiril's place, and they sound damn good. It's a pity that few DIY-ers outside Bulgaria had a chance to hear them. I think they are worth the money.

Regards,

Vix:cool:

Thank you Viktor for your positive feedback :-)
Consider that you've listened to Alnico Ether 5, and if you have chance to come in Sofia in a month or so, you'll get a chance to listen to the brand new Etrher 7 Alnico, embedded into a brand new horn system (now under heavy construction)!
Feel free to come ASAP, and you won't be disappointed ;-)

There is a Market Place section in the forum for all. I would imagine that Mr. Pass will be happy to share it along with offers from others that have contributed to international DIY as much as he did.

Indeed, the Pass Labs forum is a perfectly appropo place for nelson to discuss his products- seeing as we'll get a trickle down (or full) schematic to duplicate the commercial stuff. And he's not posting them to general forums. And his information is substantive. And he's got a long history of offering great free circuits for diy.

Nelson gets a Pass from me :)
mafia_1987
Like an owner of a pair of these drivers ( Ether 5 alnico ) I would like ot say that they sound perfect, balanced, in detail and correctly. Words aren't enough to describe the felling they give.
Thanks EtherAudio :)

Hello!
I am a proud owner of Ether 6 in backloaded horns for almost an year and for me the Ethers are the best fullrange drivers I have ever heard, especially the new 7.2 version - the next step in my system updating.:)

I will share some pictures of my system if and when I learn how to upload them.

mp,

Did you manage to sort your Horn Cab's ?

:)
Angel Gekov
I tried several times but obviously the pictures uploading is "mission impossible" for me. Thats why this is the link to the Bulgarian DIY site where the pictures are. :

Unfortunately there is no English version but if you have questions - I am here.:)

Real nice system!

The the tube stuff as well.

Thanks Gary.:)

Nice pics of systems. I especially like the "red pill" amplifier! I am not usually a fan of movie references, but hey: humor has its place.

I really hope that the unfortunate local rivalries get sorted out. New full range drivers are always welcome to the scene in my opinion. Built in a home, garage, or wherever. If extensive handcrafting fits into the equation somewhere, then it is automatically worth my time to seek out and hear.

There is this pervasive notion in many cultural circles that somehow big names are automatically superior to the lesser names. From my limited experience I can say that frequently the opposite is true. Of course, you want to make sure that the folks you are buying from will simply deliver on what they promise...beyond that, fun is to be had in the ever widening full range driver marketplace.

I am excited to hear the Ether some time soon at an audio show. Thanks for the info and please keep us posted.

Thanks Clark.
The name "Red pill" is not my idea and as I know it's not movie reference as well. The engineers from Etheraudio, creating the schematics of the amplifier, gave the name. Maybe because it's something like "medicine for hearing". :) There was "The Blue Pill" edition for absolute beginners in tubes and this is my version, made about an year ago and replaced by the red one:

About the Ethers - you are absolutely right. In addition - as I know there more then 200 pairs sold - can you imagine all of the owners to be deft?
blumenco
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluepill

I thought this was the reference. tube amplifiers can sometimes let us view into that "construct of reality" really the ironic hilarity, or even beauty of existence.

Hello,

I reviewed this thread and I'm really impressed by your work !

Those horns look gorgeous and the driver are georgeous too !

To react to previous comment in this thread, in my opinion a hand-made or small series item has much more charm and appeal than an industrial item from a big brand.

Do you think your horn will work for lowther too ?

Thanks !
