Lissajous figures - Click HERE for Original Thread

I read an article in the latest issue of AudioXpress, and it uses two Lissajous figures for music content comparison. I had two questions:

1. Are Lissajous figures taken at the source of the music, or are they taken after the power amplifier (so that the figure includes the effects of the amplifier)?

2. What are some characteristics to look for in Lissahous figures? For instance: one I know is that a squared off side indicates clipping.

I haven't seen the article, how are they hooking up the scope?

If they are doing one channel for x and one for y, a mono signal would be a straight line and progressively more spacious albums would get more circular......

A Magnum Dynalab FM tuner had a lissajous figure for looking at signals, more of a qualitative light show than anything else.... AFAIK
