i'm new to the whole diy audio thing, and i have one thing that i need to build some time soon. i have pair of sub's that are going to require a lot of power to run at their potential, and i'm needing a amp thats capable of 2500watts and 1ohm stable. is there such a thing in the diy world or am i outta luck with this.
thanx

Hi,

I really can't say that I know of any car amp capable of delivering that power at 1ohm. That is if it is RMS power, it's gonna be huge...

And I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner to try such a huge project, as your SMPS will have to have high voltage, as well as high current = Danger :)

As Sousmielie stated, it would not be recommended for a first time project. The power supply will need to supply around 3.85kW for a 65% efficient amp. The power supply would not only have to be very large, but also is very dangerous to work with. Without a really good understanding of DC-DC power supplies, this is not a menial task.

there are a few amps that will give your the power u need...some of the older us amps...the newer jbl big badboy...Hifonics bigboys, zapco 4kw, just to name a few... these should give you a reference and if you can get schematics for these, then I wouldn't see why you could duplicate them

Hi,

You can send us some pictures of the inside of the amp for visual inspection. Also tell us what the amp is doing (does the power led light up, keeps going into protection, one channel not working, etc) alot of us work with these things everyday, and will be happy to try to help you. :)

Werner
