Mike Oldfields 'The Gate' (Track 8 CD1) from the album 'Light and Shade'

Does anyone else find this both disturbing and soothing?

Personally I think its a work of pure genius and I find it entirely crazy and comforting at the same time. Brilliant stuff.

So is that a recommendation Shin? I haven't heard it yet.
I have heaps of Mike Oldfield stuff, but mainly his earlier work.
Post Amarok, he seems to have sounding a little too "muzak" for me.
ShinOBIWAN
Yeah I like it David.

Try listening to 'The Birds of Tilmun' on Andreas Vollenweider's album Book of Roses. Similar effect.

Similar to Oldfield in his best days, or similar to that particular song? I gave Oldfield up after "songs of distant earth" but have yet to find someting as good on the same line.

One of my favorites is Oldfield's "The songs of distant earth" played extremely loud the entire CD is great. The CD "Voyager" is excellent also.

IMO "Light and Shade" is his best work in the last decade.

My all time favorite concert was his performance in '93 at the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre in Hollywood, CA. He performed the entire "Tubular Bells II" composition with a live 45-piece ensemble. It was simply amazing.
