VFDs anyone? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Does anyone have any bargraph/VU VFD tubes? or spectrum analyzer VFD tubes? I need preferably a spec analyzer VFD tube, but a 2 channel bargraph tube would work too.

I lost mine to air :dodgy:

Does anyone have spares or know a cheap supplier?

Why not try to use LEDs instead of VFD????
mbates14
because LEDs look like crapola. They dont appeal to me. At least IMHO.

Sorry if this may sound inconvenient, but have you considered a bargraph magic eye tube, say a EM800?
mbates14
never heard of one

Here you go :)

awwwwww, those look sweeeeeeet. Dunno about voltages, but....

aww man. Those look awsome and very linear. I dont like the top view ones, but I love the side views.

Anyone got any? or do I look on the 'bay?

I like the EM800. Its sweet.
Simpleton
Where do you live?
If in Europe, i usually buy at www.askjanfirst.com, and he has the EM800 at a very low price (i might buy some one of these days for putting in the car :) ). Of course, Ebay is always an option.
EM84, Em800 are the ones easier to find, then you have the "stereo" EM801.
Search around diyaudio on the tubes section for magic eyes, as it's been discussed not long ago.

Im in ohio USA.

Aww man, this opened some brilliant ideas. I could make an all tube spectrum analyzer. (external by its self of course).

I dont need a bargraph driver like before, all I would need is negative bias voltages, and a common cathode amplifier with a bandpass filter to drive them? right?

another one I like is the DM160.
Simpleton
Quite right :)
A simple amplifier stage just enough to drive the magic eye is what's needed.
You could also aproach the amplifier stage - as you don't need tube heaven hi-fi for display ;-) - as a simple opamp one(cough cough).
I'm driving a 6E5-E directly from line level - looks awesome!

I still need the bandpass filters for the spec an.

anyone got any tube bandpass filter schematics? i want all tube, no hybrid.
Simpleton
Maybe this crossover network from Steve Bench and work after the schematic for the severall bands?

You could also download the filter designer from www.duncanamps.com
