US magazine BusinessWeek (Oct. 3, 2005, p.93) has an interesting article about new research. Here is it's essence:
"...Group of students at the Univ. of West Georgia in Carrollton will report at the Acoustical Society of America next month meeting on their success in extinguishing flames with sound waves from ordinary speakers...So far, low freq. sounds, ranging in intensity from an ambulance siren to a jet engine at take-off, are consistently effective..." |

| Not sure how new that is. I used to blow matches out with my speaker port forty years ago. |

Now the truth's out. We like to prove the "effectiveness" of concert subwoofer arrays by blowing out zippo lighters held in front of them!
