No,
an lb is an Avoir Dupois Pound, which is 0.45359237 kilograms.
There are other kinds of pounds.

Speaking about hilarious, i still remember this one from the newspapers, way back:
The transfer to the metric system will cost the UK many millions of pounds. :clown: |

In metric or imperial?
By the way, that Crawford quote was earleir applied to Dan Quayle. And probably others earlier than that. |

that is actually not that unusual here where metric is official, yet housing is still built in feet & inches.
And a 2x4 is really 1.5 x 3.5" ...
I was in grade school when the conversion started so find myself switching back & forth all the time. Thank goodness my CAD program doesn't care :)
BTW, there is a nice Dashboard widget for conversion for those lucky eniff to be running Tiger.

I thought 2 x 4 is 1 3/4 x 3 3/4 (PSE)
Do you mean 38 x 90?
Not sure about CLS! |

hahaha here in Brazil we have never used the British/American system but since some items used to be imported from the UK and the US it's not uncommon to hear that sort of thing...
For instance, all shops sell 17" monitors instead of 43cm ones. Some wire and pipe gauges are also advertised in inches for the above reason. And we drink low-cal drinks instead of low-joule.
Otherwise it's all metric (we were only the second country to adopt the metric system right after France) and it drives me crazy when I have to buy something in the U.S. and need to have it shipped here. I just have NO IDEA what "x" lbs, "y" inches etc. mean, even though I know how to make the conversions. :whazzat: |

In Canada at least, a finished 2X4 is usually 1 1/2" X 3 1/2" Athough you still see the occasional 1 5/8" X 3 5/8"
Rough lumber you can buy an actual 2" X 4" but that's rare and often a special order
Never seen a 1 3/4" X 3 3/4"
