I guess Moondance has been too flogged to be a (vaguely unique) Wedding Song

"non reggo al tuo squallor,
ah, non reggo al tuo squallor.
Fuggo, fuggo: son vil!
Addio, non reggo al tuo squallor,
ah! son vil, ah! son vil!

No Woman No Cry - Bob Marley

I guess Aretha’ s "You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman"
would be more appropriate than
Status Quo’s “Roll Over Lay Down”
:D

'All My Exes Live In Texas'? For subsequent marriages anyway.

Sreiously though, for an outdoor wedding, for slightly untraditional folks, a slower than average rendition of Pachelbel's Canon is pretty hard to beat.

Is it cynical to suggest "dies irae" ?

We always play "Why do fools fall in love?" sung by Dianna Ross.

But then again, we are silly like that!

All My Friends Are Getting Married - Skyhooks

All My Friends Are Getting Married – great poignant song, but er positive?

Pardon my ignorance, but could you briefly describe the feel of Pachelbel's Canon, and "dies irae"?

Cheers

Dies irae is Latin for Judgement Day. It is a usual part (with exceptions) of a requiem and sounds usually quite frightening (by intention).

And the Dies Irae is part of the Catholic Requiem Mass. Mozart and Verdi have two of the more famous ones... Or at least two of my favorites.

Canon (or Kanon) is a simple classical composition similar in structure to a 'round'. It's just a lovely, if trite, instrumental - Pachelbel's Canon is probably one of the most famous classical pieces.

Where did you say it had to be positive? I just think it's the most appropriate.

The Anniversary Song was in the jukebox in the bar I used to frequent when I was growing up in an old Polish neighborhood in Detroit. We would have a few (quite a few) and play it for laughs.

A friend claims his wedding march was the Star Wars Imperial Theme. Knowing him, I believe it.

And who could forget "O Fortuna" from Carmina Burana. All of CB is ripe fodder for marriages, really. Even the swan song is useful for shotgun weddings.

The ultimate Wedding March was featured in the movie "Diner." It was a slow organ version of the Baltimore Colt's Marching Band Theme Song:

Let's go, you Baltimore Colts,

And put that ball across the line.

So drive on, you Baltimore Colts,

Go in and strike like lightning bolts.

FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!

Rear up, you Colts, and let's fight;

Crash through and show them your might,

For Baltimore and Maryland,

You will march on to victory!

Worst wedding song for me, was The Carpenters, "We've Only Just Begun" on a cheesy Farfisa organ, and everyone dressed to the hilt in
1970's double knit polyester. Just the right clothes for a double 90
(90+degrees and 90+ humidity) day in Illinois.
Wouldn't Billy Idol's "White Wedding" go well with a biker wedding?
:D

My wife thinks of her 1st husband, and thinks of Dusty Springfield :

You don't own me
I'm not just one of your many toys
You don't own me
Don't say I can't go with other boys

And don't tell me what to do
And don't tell me what to say
And, please, when I go out with you
Don't put me on display

'Cause, you don't own me
Don't try to change me in any way
You don't own me
Don't tie me down
'Cause I'll never stay

I don't tell you what to say
I don't tell you what to do
So, just let me be myself
That's all I ask of you

Alas, Johnny Unitas mourns their departure...now they've got the "Bird of Death" The Baltimore Grackels.

Wonderful pretext for a movie -- they can't get married until she passes the Baltimore Colts trivia contest.

Bruce Dickinson / Iron Maiden: Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter. :D

Humour aside, if I was getting married tomorrow and had to select, I'd probably favour something by Loreena McKennitt (a true Godess); The Mummer's Dance; The Mystic's Dream, or Santiago. Alternatively, any piano or organ track recorded by Rick Wakeman would be good.

ira, irae = wrath, anger == when the "judex" will come to judge -- only in this case the judge is on her broom.

You Take My Breath Away (Eva Cassidy / American Tune)

Sometimes it amazes me
How strong the power of love can be
Sometimes you just take my breath away
You watch my love grow like a child
Sometimes gentle and sometimes wild
Sometimes you just take my breath away

And it’s too good to slip by
Too good to lose
Too good to be there just to use
I’m gonna stand up on a mountain top
And tell the news
That you take my breath away

Sometimes it amazes me
How strong the power of love can be
Sometimes you just take my breath away
Your beauty is there in all I see
And when I feel your eyes on me
Oh don’t you know you just take my breath away

And it’s too good to slip by
Too good to lose
Too good to be there just to use
I’m gonna stand up on a mountain top
And tell the news
That you take my breath away

And it’s too good to slip by
Too good to lose
Too good to be there just to use
I’m gonna stand up on a mountain top
And tell the news
That you take my breath away

Oh yes you take my breath away

Not for the march, but the first dance - Frank Sinatra singing "The Best is Yet to Come".

My partner and I are getting hiched ( married ) in February; and we are debating this question ourselves.
As children of the 60's and 70's we are drawn to classics like Carol King and Simon and Garfunkel, but we have chosen Handel and the "Halleluyah Chorus" as appropriate for the final vows.

Polka Dots and Moonbeams by Frank Sinatra. Maybe not for the wedding, but the reception:D

Maybe "Wedding Song" By Bob Dylan:
I love you more than ever, more than time and more than love,
I love you more than money and more than the stars above,
Love you more than madness, more than waves upon the sea,
Love you more than life itself, you mean that much to me.
Ted in NJ
I'm surprised "I Knew the Bride When She Used to Rock'n'Roll" by Nick Lowe hasn't become a standard at wedding receptions. It's great! When I got married 25 years ago I had just two requests of the band. I asked them to learn this song (They didn't.), and I told them I wouldn't pay them if they played "Feelings". At least they got that right.
