I have a Technics SA EX-800 amplifier. My son turned the volume all the way up and then turned the unit on. It apparently smoked something. I have not opened the housing yet, but wanted to know if anyone knows if there are circuit protection compentents inside that I should be able to replace.

There are probably fuses inside. Make sure the line cord is disconnected and the amp has sat unpowered for some hours. Don't even THINK about poking around in a powered unit unless you know exactly what you're doing (I gather from your question that electronic servicing is not your specialty). Look around inside and see if any components look scorched or smell funny. If so, stop and get a pro to work on the unit. Did you actually see smoke or was that a figure of speech?
Do not be surprised if the replacement fuses blow and things get even worse. If you're not comfortable with servicing and the amp has any value to you, don't fool around with it.
If I've read your question wrong and you're actually an experienced technician, then EVERY part is user-replaceable. |
