I have just acquired a pristeen one but alas it's faulty, lights and buttons all function, but no motor spin and no arm movement just the computer light flashes, i've been told that it's the micro processor D554C.Do you agree to this?
If so do you have any idea where i can get one of these chips, as this turntable looks as good as the day it came out of
the factory, it would be a shame not to get it going again, can you help?
All the nubers on the chip are
Sansui E07046
D554C 024
It's a DIP28.

I also have some info which may help you. I own a Sansui XR-Q7 turntable, which suffered a similar problem. After pressing the start button, the tonearm would lift, then there would be a whirring noise from underneath the turntable, but nothing would happen. Being a tech, I bought a workshop manual for it, before pulling it apart. I found that it was a rubber drive belt which runs the lifting mechanism had stretched. It was lifting the arm to the point where it had to operated a micro-switch, but the slight extra strain in operating that switch meant that it couldn't quite operate it. And of course, that switch was the one which told the processor that the arm had lifted, so nothing happened after that.
Jaycar Electronics here in Australia http://www1.jaycar.com.au sell a set of drive belts, catalogue no. HP-0652, which contained one the right size - I think it was one of the 23 to 25 mm diameter ones, and was very easy to replace to cure my problem, and my XR-Q7 is now performing very nicely. I also put this info on the Sansui Yahoo group.
Try that, but if you can't fix it by doing that, then I can recommend http://www.obsinc.us/ . The chap who owns that site gives you access to download the manual from the Internet, but also sends it out on CD-ROM to your address. His site also has Sansui technical bulletins which were released for various Sansui equipment, including one for your turntable. He also runs a Sansui appreciation website, The Best of Sansui, at http://www.sansui.us .

I have a XR-Q5 and a similar problems:
When I press start:
- quartz locked LED goes on
- computer LED blinks SLOW.
- the platter start rotating.
- BUT the arm is not moving at all.
- now the computer LED blinks FAST.
Then the LEDs go off and the platter stops rotating.
Anyone any idea?!? Any help is greatly appreciated! |
