Anybody have expirience with the solidstate dynaco preamps, there are few for sale at a local pawn shop.

thanks

I would avoid them mainly because the connectors (unplated and prone to corrosion IIRC) and switches are crummy. The pot could also be pretty much shot depending on how much use it has had.

They were fairly attractive though.

I have a Dynaco Pat-5 in the basement which was purchased about 1975. The circuits are, by todays standards, obsolete. However, they could be fun to DIY improve. The circuits are mostly discrete components so you can do lots of tweaking. If I recall, the Pat-5 contained 2 IC opamps, the LM 301. That sure needs a modern replacement.

I built one of these in around 1975. They don't sound that good (even then!) As I recall, nothing was very ggod, I mean controls, power supply, circuits. Just basic stuff.

If it's cheap enough they are fun to play with.
