the buffered GC really is a monumental amp! - Click HERE for Original Thread
demogorgon
First of all i would like to thank you all for your help and for your patience with me and helping me to reach my goal:

A new personal milestone in HI-FI! :D

My findings with the buffed gain clone was in short that it was the best amp i have ever had the good graces to lend my ears!

never have i heard such exelent soundstage, detail, dynamics or deffinition!

I am now, for the first time in my life, really happy with my stereo!
I had never though I would ever be able to have such sound, at least not at the age of 17!

SO: Thank you DIYaudio.com and it's members for making this possible!

Kind regards
Marius

edit: and, yes, i threw away the panasonic..

I used the opa 627, as i heard it touted as the best opamp, but i use sockets, so testing others using the same pin layout is no stress.

I think it's one of those some guy in denmark sendt me for some strange reason.. :clown:

just figured i'd includ a pic of it, not in a case yet..

LOL:D I might send you a few Jfets too, if they sound any better;) Check this one: http://users.verat.net/~pedjarogic/...e/gainclone.htm I just ordered a few different Jfets to check this out. Having the Hitachi devices allready, made me want to find out if there were some substitutes out there that would equal the performance. I have my strong doubts, though:( Whatever, this is not a RIAA amp, is it? So, maybe it is possible to find a cheap alternative for this buffer? Does anyone know? If yes, let us know:cool:

Yes, the opa627 are DIFET's if i remember correctly..

it would be nice to try some other chips..
i still have to try the caps on the opa's pins too, but i'm not too enthusiastic about taking my new nice amp apart just yet..

maby after i'v completed the brian gt kit.

and, no, i'm still going strong for DIYing audio, but i feel that now it's my speakers turn to recive an "extreme makeover, the speaker edition" :D

Hi Guys

Who was the silly boofhead who got the idea of buffering gainclones? :smash:

(Betcha you guys have all forgotten, now I'm suffering recognition depravation syndrome).

Joe R.:bawling: :bawling::bawling:

PS: I'm threatening to do a solid-state buffer that will leave the simple DIY version tube one for dead, but I'm a tube guy, so now I am getting myself compromised. "A house divided against itself will not stand." J.C.

But it's worth the trouble, of course.
No, let me put it this way: YOU MUST DO THAT!
You will give a definitive hammer on that Panasonic.:D

Demogorgon,

There's something I don't get it, looking at the pic.
On the OPA627 you have input and output coupling caps?
You can remove the caps before the OPA627.:headshot:

nah, it's good for noraml listening and the casual turning up the volume on my favourite tunes.

i'm only using a 220V\16V xformer, so i have very low rails ATM, thet may help on the heat as well..

How would an input buffer improve sound quality? I don't understand why it would be necessary or beneficial...

You may be from the cold north, but you have been able to warm my heart. Not been able to contribute much on the forums lately, been through three R&D cycles in the last 4-5 months. Only able to :wave2: now and then, just to make sure I'm not forgotten.

Re things Norwegian, how close are you to a town called Kongsvinger? My kid brother, Jannik Rasmussen, lives there.

Joe R.

To all you beaut guys, please take note that my JLTi website has changed to www.customanalogue.com, so take a look at the new JLTi Products (then you'll know why I've been so busy). It's Sunday afternoon and I need a :drink:.

Joe!

thanks for the nice words!

i'm certainly going to check out your new site, and congrats on your new products!

As for Kongsvinger, i'm hopefully moving there next year to complete my 3 years electronic cource, mainly focused (on my own accord) on analog electronics and sound reproduction.
It's a hour and a half drive from where i live now. :)
