People who break the rules and get themselves put in the sinbin will be unable to post for the duration of their stay. Additionally for each sinbinning a moderator will state who and why they were sinbinned. Public comment is not invited, however if you would like to comment on a particular sinbinning please email me personally at jason@diyaudio.com. I will be happy to discuss any matter in private with you. |

All,
It was decided among moderators to give cowanrg a sin bin sentence of 14 days.
Offenses:
* he posted where to get porn
* he posted incorrect information
* he omitted to apologise for that
* he told a new member to go to another forum
* he annoyed a new member.
* he told a new member he was a liar.
This has just happened in the last six days. Some of those issues may have happened before the new forum rules were announced, but not all and one is already enough. Said issues might violate rules of other audio forum sites, too.
Furthermore cowanrg preferred to ignore helpful hints and tell the moderator (who was trying him to get back on track) instead what to do. He did so more than once. He wasted his and the moderator's effort and time.

All,
AudioFreak has asked an uninvolved fellow moderator to check and to decide the case. I happened to drop in, so i took charge.
yldouright was asked for an apology, his answer was not satisfactory. It does not count IMO that the member asking happened to be moderator; any member could have asked for an apology if he or she feels injustly attacked and the matter could have been settled in a mutally respectful way. AudioFreak did refuse to take charge in a struggle he is involved in.
I looked at the case and did not like at all what happened.

i have to deeply apologize for the patience i had with Artnyos' stunts, particularly to those members having been harrassed the last few days. I let it go too long.
I sensed from the start i was his pet enemy and i admit i have similar feelings for him, due to the lack of constructive attitude coming from his posts. I wrote him so and hinted we behave like civilized men and stay away from each other and he should stay out of trouble. No private response, the public one was observable.
Having in mind he is "not my best friend", i was extremely careful and tried to be exceptionally just and impartial. This was utterly wrong, i should have acted as swift as i usually do. Artnyos seems to have misinterpreted my patience and lenience as weakness. I have to learn from that.

have turned out to be the same person and are permanently banned from our forum.
We moderators have proof for that (provided by the site owner): an inquiry at the database has shown that certain IP addresses are repeatedly shared between these users. Out of 3000 members since our forum exists, none other than these actually show up for the IP adresses in question. I think this proves beyond reasonable doubt that these users all have the same identity. Which is clearly against our forum rules.
Before moderation took place here, HarryHaller was a major pain to some of us and observing his actions was no fun.
He has bullied others and punished them for their lack of knowledge.
Since moderation takes place here, HarryHaller has behaved well . But the other identities caused a lot of mess and confusion. As we know that all seven identities are the same person, we think that the person known to us as HarryHaller has used these indentities to behave to his own questionable taste whenever he feeled like that, knowing, that his main identity on which he collected expertise and respect and recognition would stay untouched. He knew he could get away with it.
We feel that such a member has no place in this friendly community.

fdegrove was called to order by a moderator. After the subtle approach from a number of moderators failed, a moderator very clearly (and loudly) stated our concerns -- this was a call to order with no immediate action intended.
The timing wasn't the best with fdegrove announcing he was leaving a few hours before (the moderator was not aware of that -- had he been then he would not have seen any further necessity to call fdegrove to order). The moderator action however was marked as official action, the opinion of the entire moderator team, and was still valid.
In return, fdegrove chose to threaten the moderator with legal consequences, announcing his intention to turn this over to his attorney.
I would like to remind you that we all, you all, fdegrove included, have agreed to following text when submitting the registration (emphasis is mine):

fdegrove chose to threaten a moderator while on official duty and when he became aware that his account had been blocked temporarily until we had settled how to proceed, he repeated this threat to the moderator team and to diyAudio as a whole.
The repeated threat is enough reason: the moderator team has decided that fdegrove is no longer welcome here. He is persona non grata. He is permanently banned.
The two posts in question have been moved into the new Trash Bin temporarily for anyone interested in seeing them.

Ok, I have some time to explain further.
Fred basically broke his promises, To Jason, to us Mods, and to you the Members.
When Fred was reinstated a couple of months ago, he promised to behave, and avoid using "sock puppets", i.e. false personalities. He broke this promise recently by posting under the names of SorniltheWhite and anna_grahm.
We spotted this virtually as soon as it happened, and thanks to those members who also spotted it and emailed us. We communicated with Fred, and he was not even slightly apologetic, but instead stated he wanted to be banned, as he was sick of the Forum, and he would never post again.
As we were still debating a fair system of punishments for breaking the forum rules, (which will be posted soon), we held off on the mattter of what to do with Fred until we were ready to post these. We hoped he would behave and we could set a punishment that would let him come back soon, but also see the rules of the Forum satisfied.
Fred then posted again, breaking his promise to us, and so left us with no option but to sinbin him.
I want Fred back, using his knowledge and experience for the benefit of the forum, but he has to learn to behave in public, and within the rules as set down by the site's owner Jason.

PS: The only currency we have on this forum is respect. That mefeedback would show so little respect for the explicit wishes of the original content creator (and in private emails express continued innocence) knocks my respect for him -- which despite his sometimes abrasive posts, has always been high -- down a notch. That pinkmouse, simply having had this pointed out to him, recognized the gravity, would give himself equal blame, and equal sentence, raises my respect for him. |

Upon reflection, I have decided to release Mrfeedback from the sinbin. The responsibility for the post in question descended solely on me once I had approved it, much as in the way a manager must take responsibility for his workforce and their mistakes.
He is now released, and the time served will be knocked off his suspended sentence, i.e. it will be reduced to four days.
I will be taking over his time, and serving the full four days. |

A lot of acrimony was spread. The mod on the scene was unable to turn it into something positive.
Fred Dieckmann for setting a boobytrap, mrfeedback for duplicating it, modifing it, and reposting it 1 day Sinbin. This was considered a joke by the perpetrators... to my mind it was a heinous practical joke whitch was disrepectful to the entire membership. (the booby trap purported to be something else, when clicked would put another member on your inactive list).
Fred's sentence to be served concurrently.
We have been trying to run things really loosely as far as moderation goes. This one got pretty nasty, and in hindsight we probably should have acted sooner. Our apologies to the community.

1 day each for getting into a long argument -- The kind of argument that goes -- Yes, the No it doesn't, Yes it does, No it doesn't, Yes it does, No, Yes, No, Yes .... with neither willing to let the other have the last word.
Some stuff was said that does not belong on the forum. So one day each for their bull-headedness. Since they have both brought themselves back into line, the sentence will be suspended. ie this is an official slap on the wrist.
In addition, for an unspecified time, both will have their posts moderated to avoid any future mud-slinging, and perhaps some thot before they go on-and-on-and-on...
Let this also be a head's up to all other members, if you find yourself in one of these kinds of arguments, just let it go... it only matters if YOU enjoy the music you play... your ears, your tunes.

Update
After receiving an email from Jocko, with an explanation of his reasons for posting the offending message, and some discussion amonsgt the Mods, I have reduced his sentence to 2 days.
But, as the fight was flaring up again, despite warnings to all concerned, I have also decided to give mikek and Rodd 2 days in the sinbin as a "Cooling Off" period. The original post in the offending thread will be merged with the Peace thread, and all other posts removed to Texas.
I hope this will be the end of the matter, as I have great respect for the knowledge and experience of all concerned. |

After a long period of discussion amongst the mods we have increased mikek's sentence in the sin bin to two weeks, with a further two weeks suspended.
This is because he sent several abusive emails to other members via the forum, a behaviour we will not tolerate.
The sentence will be dated from the first day of sinbin, so five days have been served so far, with nine to go. Time served has run concurrently with his two days cooling off period.
Depending on further thought and discussion, we reserve the right to put mikek under moderation when he is released. |
