I have just purchased a used Gaincard. My first Chip Amp. I'm having a problem with my unshielded cabling and interconnects (Nordost and Kimber). Can anyone suggest something with appropriate isolation that has the speed to match the Chipamps.
Routing has helped some. Wraping with sheet teflon has helped even more. But the noise floor is still elevated. Nothing connected, the amp doesn't make a hiss. Stone quiet with both Fostex and Lowther. Iv'e lifted, cheated and grounded. I borrowed some unused OLD AudioQuest Lapis. The problem relented. The amp is so light weight and the lapis so stiff. I cant keep the amp on my shelf. I stands like a reared Cobra. |

So, you do have the original, 47 labs Gaincard?
If yes: this must be the reason, why you don't get to much answers to your question.
Most readers here are owners of clones, not the original.

The most obvious reason why you get an elevated noise floor is that your source is noisy. I strongly doubt the interconnects would add audible noise if they're of reasonable quality. I've heard cables that make noise when moved, but they were of very dubious quality and in a high impedance circuit (a failing guitar cable comes to mind).
