Uff - finnaly sucedeed :D

I use lm3886 in non-inverted version, no zobel, for mute just a resisitor to (-) and no parallel capacitor.

Just a Q - without interconnect the DC on the output is -38 and -70mV, with ICs in: +12 and - 15mV ...
That's still inside "tolerances", isn't it??

Pictires will follow :D
Peter Daniel
If the interconnect is connected to the source it's normal, as the impedance changes and offset decreases. It is within acceptable range.

im waiting for your photo:D

congratulations

Hi!

First hour is behind :D

It works ;) :D

It even plays ;)

OK, stop kidding - I can't estimate sound yet (it's 4am here and my parents wouldn't be to impressed) - but I'm quite satisfied - almost no hum - well it appears only with oppening the pot - but I allready know that my PatekPre ain't finished yet ... I intend to separate grounds, etc ...

For the first 5min I've used BoZ as a preamp - but it jumped to quickly at the start of volume with volume - ...

OK, few pictures first and than more description ... ;)
Stabist
Hehe - as you can see - my room is a REAL mess - I wonder is there anybody who could guess all present and future (pre)amps that are on the picture???

OK, a little better view to current setup (with Zen and BoZ as "shelfs") ...

Damn - I miss leds - Pre is passive and Power also doesn't have one ... So - 3 boxes and only one led :bawling:
Stabist
I just have to publish this one - ain't that "mirror effect" great ;)
Stabist
Cables, cables, cables .... Cables all around ....
Stabist
One channel ...
(I agree - I could polish Copper much more - but at that time I though I was in a hurry :( ) :smash:
Stabist
Both channels ... That's all if I don't consider the PSU unit ... Almost enough place left for another two chips ;)
Stabist
And this is PSU's interior

Hi!

Thanks! - first a VERY BIG thanks for your DiYing - it was YOU who inspired me that DiY must also look good not just sound well :D BUT that it can be done with some improvisation at home almost completely by yourself!!!!
I think (Ok, it's a bit non-modest) that I'm doing well now to fullfill these expectation I have ...

Btw - I've done some "researches" after writing first post - actually with an interconect IN but unplugged on other side - nothing changes - but when adding another unit (passive or active) - it decreases ...
But as you allready said - it's something to be expected ...

Does any have an idea can "loudness pins" at pot be used in a passive manner??
Stabist
Aha - to continue technical description ....

Resistors used are:
- Vishay 825R and Caddock 27,4k as feedback (OK values look a little bit strange - but tha ratio is pretty much same) ... and usual metalfilm 10k for mute and carbon for 22k in paralel at the input ...
- 1000uF/35V PanFC for PS - OK, maybe I could use a little more capacitance - but it is what I purchased a loooong time ago
- MUR860 rectifiers - and 10uF PanFC at the "out" of the bridge - PCB is from Idefixes - thanks also to him!
- 225VA/2x19,5V trannie - unloaded with amp the "output" of the PSU was +/-28V - must measure how much does it decreases with amp on
- some silver 0,3mm wire from other projects
- PSU calble from PSU to Power is from Cat5 cable ...
- of, and ofcourse- blue led ;)

After around 2h od playing - the case is slighlty warm - will see what will be tommorow when testing it a little bit harder ....

Hi Stabist

Could you compare the chipamp with ZEN? How would you describe the differences in terms of sonic signature?

I have built ZEN V3 , and now I am starting to build a tube buffered Gainclone...

2nd Question: What speakers are you using?

Regards,

Vix
Taco
Wow  very nice metalwork. I like your Pass Lab case (with Logo ... :))
Franz G
Very nice work! My respect and congratulations!

How long did you make this cable? How big is the cross section of the wires, within Cat5?

And: did you insert some bleeders, to discharge the caps in the psu, when the amp is not connected? /Edit: or did I miss something? You dont have big caps in the psu?

Regards
Franz
Stabist
@Vic - I'll do that - just wait couple days that I can gather some impressions ...

@Franz G - it's a usual Cat5 cable - I use 4 pairs of wires for one channel - so 16 wires in total ... I saw guite some amps with only one wire for PSU - so I gues I won't have problems ...
Stabist
Oh - about bleeders - the blue led is wired between + an - and it "dies" after few seconds - so I guess caps are discharged very quickly ...
Stabist
Here's another picture - what do you think about those cheap plastic knobs?? I didn't like them at first - and I replaced Al silver ones with them just as a joke - but they stayed on since then ...
Stabist
Hi!

After few days I've decided to do a small change - the thing is - PSU wire is directly connected to chip pins - so when moving the stuff around - you also "shake" those pins and caps inside ... Just to prevent any unwanted accidents - I've decided to use few drops of Patex glue to glue both caps together + one of them to copper bar ...
Allright ... ;)
BUT??? Is it just me (Ok, maybe I'm a little more tired today than usual) or did a bass become a little bit more shy???
I mean - are this chipamps really so sensitive???
Stabist
I'm "experimenting" a bit with acryl top ... It doesn't look bad at all - I'm just scepticall because acryl is soooo sensitive to fingerprints ... :(
Stabist
another one
edjosh23
Stabist,

I like the top a lot, a deep black with some reflections.
Just a suggestion to keep the fingerprints away: A friend of mine bought some solution to put on his car windows that prevent fingerprints. It is made for cars and works pretty well. He said it was inexpensive and I'm guessing it will work well on your acrylic top.

Nice work!

May I ask where did you get the case for the Zen (and how much did it cost?)

Cheers

Andrea
Stabist
@Andypairo: Zen case was custom made by some guy here - and I had fortune to preown heatsinks ... So I payed around 60Eur for the rest :D Otherwise it would be more like twice as much ...

@edjosh23: thanks for a tip - till try it out ...
