Ok, I've signed up.
2 questions:
1. I see we need to add shipping, any idea how much? Looks like USA and Canada are the only destinations by the way.
2. I'm ready to pay, what's the payment deadline? |
|
|
| jrsun |
answers to some questions:
1. The RCA and binding post are pretty much of the standard sizes. I do not have accurate enough tool to measure them.
I replace some in my commercial units and do not have any problem.
2. everyone can go to www.usps.com to estimate the shipping cost since you have the origin and detination zips. You can make a rough estimate on the weight. It won't be too far away. In fact, that's how I did it in last GP.
3. do not pay now. make the change as you wish before 01/20/2005. Then I'll place the order based on the number on 01/20/2005. After I receive the parts, I'll post the notice here and serve based on first pay first send. |
|
|
| homer09 |
Anybody know what the size specs are for these RCA's and binding posts? I want to use them as a replacement in a commercial amp but i want to avoid drilling larger holes. so basically i need an idea of the following dimensions:
- what is the overall diameter of the RCA's? (so i could know the minimum spacing between them)
- what is the diameter of the RCA shaft that crosses through the chasis panel? (so i could know if they fit in the stock holes)
- what is the diameter of the binding post's shaft that crosses through the chasis panel?
I good estimate would suffice. thanks! |

I would like to order some binding posts, RCAs and knobs, but my PayPal is with VISA (not setup for bank transfer). I was wondering if someone ordering from Montreal wouldn't mind also ordering for me. We can split shipping and I can pay cash.

| Geez! I think my Paypal is with a credit card also. Why is this a bad thing? |
|
|
| homer09 |
| Paypal through credit card has extra charges for the receiver. |
|
|
| UrSv |
Yes, a few % so why worry? PayPal is not a Non-profit organization.
First time I hear anybody complain about a small fee when handling pcoket money through PayPal... |
|
|
| homer09 |
depending on which credit card, you will be charged about 3% for credit card transaction. 3% is quite a bit on the size of the order jrsun is taking right now (over $1000).
verifying your account to allow to pay through a bank account is not too difficult a process. also, if you dont like the ordering rules, then just dont order right? |
|
|
| Variac |
Well, if it turns out that a little discussion clears up a problem so that all can order, then what's wrong with that? Of course the final decision is always up to the purchaser and jrsun. Perhaps they could add 3% to their order and jrsun is happy, perhaps that still doesn't work and we have to stick with the established rules. I don't see why discussing an issue is a problem.
Whether true or not, I think some people prefer to use Paypal linked to their cards because they think it might give them more recourse if the information gets in the wrong hands. I know that you are able to cancel charges that aren't made by you on your credit card if you weren't the one making them. This isn't to imply we don't trust jrsun! just that in general, ordering online we prefer not to have money in our accoiounts directly accessible to Paypal- a servce that gets scammed regularly. |
|
|
| homer09 |
| Variac, you have a valid arguement. much better than just complaining. well the final decision is for jrsun to make. but he doesnt seem to be around these past days, i still have no reply about the sizing of the rca's and binding posts (explained in a previous post on this thread). |
|
|
| Variac |
| But you also have a point homer09. I didn't realize that the credit card makes it cost more- but it makes sense. Probably jr is just trying to keep the cost as low as possible, and keeping track of how people pay might be more hassle. Wow, this is the most civilized discussion online ever! |

Jrsun,
Just wanted to clarify something:
1 pair of binding post means posts for 2 channels or, literally, a pair of posts (positive and negative for one channel)?
I may have to change my wiki amount depending on which it is.
Thanks,

| I'd happily add whatever surcharge would be needed to order with PayPal by Credit Card but as these GP rules are now I'll unfortanately have to stay out. |
|
|
| homer09 |
UrSv,
I think the reason jrsun doesnt want to accept credit card is because this forces you to upgrade your paypal account to a business account. This type of account has fees when receiving any payment. So by accomodating the few people who for some reason cannot pay by check or through a verified account, he would be forced to pay fees for every payment! and these fees arent just 3%, there is also a flat fee per transaction. :dead: |
|
|
| rabstg |
PayPal also charges a 1% fee for "across borders" transactions.
Standard fee is 3.2% Add 1% for out of country transfers, and 2-4% for CC fees, and you can see how paypal makes its money.
I am in the middle of a GB and we have so far paid PayPal fees > $50. |

Sorry for OT.
Obviously they have to eat, it's not a non-profit org and I'm not disputing that. Still does not make sense however. I can't see why HIS withdrawal would be affected by MY account using a credit card. If I get a fee deducted from my payment and add a corresponding increase to cover for that then HE should receive whatever amount he wanted in the end. At least that's the way I've been using PayPal successfully across the globe for quite some time. Even if that would not be the way it works then this is the first time I hear it is a problem for the paying party to add enough to cover any fee incurred on either the buyer or the seller side. This is what I happily offered to do. |
|

Hi jrsun,
peraps you could answer the question about PayPal , that way we wouldn't have to discuss it here forever :D
MArk |

UrSv,
maybe you didnt properly understand my post (even tho u quoted it). SO here is it is as clear as i can make it:
Paypal has the following accounts:
Personal: you can send payments for free (credit, bank, paypal balance) to anyone. You can receive payments only from bank accounts or paypal funds but always FREE.
Business: you can send payments for free (credit, bank, paypal balance) to anyone. You can receive payments from bank accounts, paypal funds AND credit cards BUT you pay fees for receiving money from ANY source.
So in other words, receivng with a business account is no longer free EVEN if the person pays through a bank account. Its the penalty paypal forces you to pay to be allowed to receive credit payments!
So if jrsun is forced to upgrade his account, even if I pay him through a bank account (which is free for personal account) he will now have to pay 3% plus fees!! So because you want to pay by credit, i will also have to put in the extra 3% + fees! quite unfair i think.
Also, because you have a personal account, you will never see the fees since personal accounts have no fees. Jrsun will be the one paying all the fees!
Upgrading a paypal account is a mistake, unless its absolutely necessary.
Once again, paying by check is still an option, or if you have enough funds in your paypal already. |
|
|
| tiroth |
UrSv,
If you wish, you can just pay me and I will pay jrsun, as long as he is ok with it. I don't mind and it obviates all of this back and forth. |

info updated !
The schedule might be delayed a little bit because
our quantity is over the stocked quantity and it is Chinese new year period, manufacture is off for holidays. I'll keep you posted when I have more info. Sorry for the delay but it is out of my control.
That's another reason I do not want collect money until I receive a shipping confirmation from manufacture
If you miss 01/20, you can still add your order in the waiting list (entry below ***** line) in case someone backs out |
|
|
| jrsun |
Info update !
The manufacture managed to prioritize our orders so they are on the way by sea (due to the weight) and scheduled to arrive at U.S. mid March
P.S. I'll set up a wiki for estimating the demand for preamp and amp enclosure. |

Mid March! So much for the three projects I'm currently working... I guess they will be around for future ones...
Maybe a time line should have been posted when the GB was started.?. |
|
|
| jrsun |
| I try to get them by airmail but they are too heavy and would be too cotly. |
|
|
| rabstg |
Hi jrsun-
No need to rush them, just next GB "state" a time line..
Orders taken from x/x - x/x
Orders placed on x/x
Shipment expected on x/x
Payment due on x/x
Mail out to buyers on x/x - x/x
Note ALL dates can CHANGE, but they are just rough time lines so buyers know what and when to expect.
If I'm not mistaken the forum does NOT charge by the word... But there is something to be said about complete and relative communication. |

for chassis, the tentative schedule is
1. collect order/poll up to 02/28/2005
2. post updated prices on 03/15/2005
3. make your change as you wish and pay 25% deposit until 03/31/2005 by paypal from bank account or check

jrsun,
i suggest you build yerself a stock of these RCA's and binding posts and sell them as people need them instead of in one shot group buys. i think the success of this group order goes to show how well your RCA's and binding posts would sell. People on this forum will always need these, and im sure keeping a stock of them in the US wouldnt be a risk or liability.
With a stock up, more people will buy knowing they wont have to wait months for their connectors. you obviously have a good contact for these parts in asia and you could put it to work more efficiently.
just my 2 cents. |
|
|
| rabstg |
Hi All-
I'm out.
I've got 4 projects waiting for binding posts and they can wait no longer.
The price was good but delay not.
I have 5 sets that will be available on the original order under "rabstg".
I broke down and ordered them with other parts I needed from here:

If not, then I will leave as is and just remind jrsun to send to you instead. |
|
|
| jrsun |
Sorry ! I must forget to mention that the parts normally arrive 2 months after I place the order. 2 weeks for manufacturer to process the order and 6 weeks (plus minus 2 weeks) to ship.
stocking them might not be a good idea for me, stock few can not solve the problem, stock too many is not good for me. If you need them please continue to add your order in wiki. Once it accumulates some quantity (say 100 pairs), I can set up another GB ! |
|
|

I added a column to the wiki called "cancel my order". This is for people that no longer want to participate in the group buy or cannot pay through bank account from paypal. This way, people in waiting list can get their parts faster.
Please type YES under "cancel my order" if you are out. If you are still in, type NO.
To jrsun, hope this doesnt bother you, if so, just remove the column, i just thought it was a good way to speed things up. |

Please check your payment status (I'll mark "Y" if received), parts shppied date (if shipped) at wiki.
About the postage calculation, I just estimate based on
solving the simultaneous linear equation from known shipped weight, for example
x: weight of RCA pair, y: weight of binding post pair, z weight of priority mail box
2x + 4y + z= 14 oz
4Y + z = 11 oz
4x + 8y + z = 25 oz |
