Hi,
I'm considering building point-to-point wiring Balanced Zen line stage. My questions is anyone have the experience of substitute the FET's (IRF610). I have a loads of match IRFPE 30 and plan to use them for this project but not sure if this will degrade the sound quality?
As always, your opinion would be much valued. thanks |

U have trouble getting IRF610 in M'sia?
U can also use IRF510, or even IRF620. They shd also provide good performance. |

Thanks for the Respond. Actually I don't have any trouble getting IRF610. What really worries me is that capacitance of the input/output MOSFETs (IRFPE30) are very high. Can any one tell what could possibly go wrong using this device?
Capacitance IRF610 IRFPE30
Input (Ciss) 140 1300 Vgs @ 0V
Output (Coss) 53 310 Vgs @ 25V
Reverse transfer (Crss) 15 190 @ 1MHz |

You are right, the higher capacitances of the IRFPE30 compared to the IRF610 can cause degradation of the performance. Mainly the upper cutoff frequency will be affected, it will be lowered by some amount. And nonlinearities maybe increased, i.e. THD figures, because the MOSFET capacitances are nonlinear and the higher values may have stronger impact. The IRFPE30 devices are intended for power application, the IRF610 for low to medium power.
So, of course you can try using the IRFP30 devices keeping in mind that there will be some effect. If you are satisfied with the performance of your amp then keep them.
Godd luck and success with your line stage. |

Try also P3NB90FP.
It sound better than IRF610, but I don't know why. :( |
