Hello,
I am a beginer for DIY projectors. I am just looking at various options to build one. Is there any difference in selecting an Active Matrix or Passive Matrix LCD panel. As I understand, Active MAtrix does not use backlight, so cannot be used for projector. IS this right. Please give me your inputs.

As far as I remember (or know, whatever:D ), Active matrix has much, MUCH better response times, when compared to Passive. With passive, you will get terrible ghosting and blurring on your screen during fast action. So passive matrix is not suitable for lcd projection (can be used, but just not worth it I think).

They can both use a backlight.

Hi,

what ancorp states is right.
What i'd like to say - Active or Passive Matrix has nothing to do with the backlight !! Your Computer TFT Flatpanel is also a Active matrix and uses a backlight !
I think you've cahnged orders on the Transreflective and Active/PAssive Matrix.
On transreflektive Matrix you can read your Screen if there's a lot of sun(normally backlight turnes of), on A.M or P.M you can't read it.
