Aleph 2 - thermal connections - Click HERE for Original Thread
MEGA-amp
Here a couple pics of my plainjane Aleph 2s on the way. I was planning on putting 3 Irfp244s per sink, but the sinks are not thermally connected. Im thinking to mount the 6 gain devices on an aluminum plate then thermally mate them with the sinks, the same for the CCS devices. Can i get away with not thermally connecting the sinks, or will I run into thermal tracking problems resulting in abnormal DC offset??

No matter what, Aleph 2's are never Plain Janes! :devilr:

I don't think you'd run into any problems mounting the FETS right
on the heat sinks... but that's just my gut feeling.

Good luck, they look great so far.

(I know my Aleph 2 monos are to heavy for me to lift! Serious amps!!)

If they are matched and you use the same number of devices on each sink, the sinks will be the same temp.

Also, there is no thermal tracking issues with Alephs. it's single ended with no thermal comp circuit, only a modulated current source.

Also not mounting fets directly to the sink only adds another thermal resistance junction that makes your sinks less efficient.

Thats more PlainJohn.
Damn, thats a solid front plate, me like 'm big !
Even the toroid mounting bolt gives me the thrills !

Why not put some thermal paste between the connecting corner profiles and the heatsinks/frontplate ?

It is amazing what cold bridges in housing and ship construction are capable of.

I see plenty of bolts on the alloy? corner profiles, the connection is very sturdy.
Due to the stress at the bolt's locations the profiles will probably deform and not touch the heatsinks completely, ample thermal grease should mend that.

With equal devices on the sinks thermal differences should be marginal, creating solid heat bridges by employing the full contact area of the corner profiles in my view can replace a bonding alloy plate.

I can not but notice a lot of sneekers on the picture, NP did not stop by for coffee ?
When are your finals due ?
