Opinions on a pair of transformers for a 6 channel gainclone - Click HERE for Original Thread

I'm thinking about buy two 21V-0-21V 400VA toriod transformers for my 6 channel gainclone project. I'll be using the BrianGT/PD LM3875 kits. This should produce about 31VDC after rectification. I'd like to get some opinions as to whether two of these transformer will provide enough current for all 6 gainclone and whether 31VDC is too high of a voltage to be using. I plan to connect 3 channels to each toroid. Please refer to the E-Bay link below to find out more about the transformers.

That's 800VA for 6 channels, so about 130VA per channel.

I always reckon that 80VA/channel is sufficient so you should be fine with 130VA! ;)

On my 6 channel Brian GT amp, I used 2 x 300VA 18V toroids. There's no shortage of current !!! If anything, I think my voltage may be a little low, so I expect yours would be about right..

I'd be very interested in hearing some more details about your 6 channel gainclone. Have you already started a thread about it? Pictures would also be great =).

m0tion,

The amp is not 100% finished yet, although it has been in active service for about 6 months now. I was going to take some photos when it was fully complete, but for your sake, I'll try and get the camera out tonight (it's 9am in NZ right now).

Hear! Hear!

And how are you processing the surround encoding?

Sorry kneadle, it's just a power amp with volume control. Surround decoding was considered far too time consuming. - I just use the 5.1 outputs on my DVD player.

Yeah, but that actually makes sense. How do you explain that?
BlackDog
I started a thread about my 6 channel amp.
