Hi everyone.

I hope you don't mind but i just wanted to share my first hi-fi diy project with you guys.
It's a PPA headphone amp, with a small troid and Velleman psu. A realativly simple project from the electrical perspective. The chassis is however something that i'm very proud of.:)

I currently have 4 of brianGT's boards in my sweaty hands. These will go into a similar chassis, as will a PC with RME souncard and Behringer DCX2496. I'll then have the bi-amped system that i've been craving.

Lot's of work to do yet though....:D

Cheers

Well, you have all the rights off the world to be praud, it is a exciting and wonderfull design. Good handwork.

You are a specialist!

Wonderful chassis

Can you give us more details on how the chassis is built ?
demogorgon
Very nice!!

now, this is craftmanship..

Nice spaceship! I'd say, warp 9 - warp 10 top speed? :clown:

Nice looking chassis. I always enjoy it when people think "outside the box." In this case, literally. Very creative case. What was your inspiration?

Can you share how you made it?

Best,
KT

It started with a simple idea to build a home theatre PC. I wanted to use a Griffin Powermate like this

I had 4 front plates waterjet cut from 10mm ali, but shelved the HTPC until a suitable motherboard could be sourced (i've finally tracked down what i want so stay tuned for that). All of the other pieces i've made myself. I had 1 length of copper pipe, 1 length of ali bar, a little bit of plate and a small piece of ali sheet. having a lathe really helped. :D
It's the feet i'm most happy with.

Absolutely fantastic. Nice job in and out.

Keep up the good work and let us know about your next project!

Stunning design. Bravo.

At first glance, I thought it was a laser toner assembly that had fallen off a laser printer. :D

Looks amazing.
Selexus
Thanks to everyone of the kind words.

It's because of you guys (i've been a lurker here for 12 months or so) that i've been inspired to build this sort of thing. So i feel i owe you all a big thanks. :o :D

I have to add on to what everyone else says.. In the immortal words of Peter Griffin "*******' sweet!"

 whoah mama. you're making us all feel ashamed of our work :D

Very inspiring.

How did you cut the copper feet, and is it all welded together? Did you spray on the black finish?

I think I'll just give up at this point... :bawling:

That's a very, very (did I say very?) nice chassis!

Hi Selexus

Maybe you've already heard it, but honestly.... that is absolutely an amazing design. Great attention to detail and a fantastic finish.
I just had to say this.

I cut the feet with a holesaw the same size diamater as the copper tube. The tube is placed horizontaly in a vice that is bolted to the pillar drill. The holesaw is slowly feed down ( it tends to snatch a bit). Replace the holesaw with a slightly larger flap wheel to clean up the cut, and lastly debur by hand with a needle file. Simple(ish).;)

No there is no welding/soldering/glueing. There are ali rings inside the main tubes that are threaded to accept an M6 allen bolt that clamp the foot assy up to the tube from underneath. Rubber blanking grommets are placed in the holes to act as isolation feet.

Yes i sprayed the black myself (i had it left over from when i sprayed my bike). I'm going to strip and redo it soon, because the primer's adhesion to the ali is poor, resulting in flaking.

After such glowing praise i'm feeling very humble.

I've also had some enquires about making this chassis and similar types for people. It's not something i've considered before, but could be fun.

If anyone wants one, or something similar please feel free to PM me and i'll see if i get enough interest to proceed.

Cheers

WoW

Seriously,

you got me drop any plan to bluid me a 6 ch power amp!!

... Since I would never in my life be able to come up with nothing even remotely comparable to even the smallest bit of your exquisite handiwork!!!
Selexus
I'd be honoured to build a chassis for a 6 channel amp for you.
What boards are you planning on using, gainclone, or something else? What sort of style did you have in mind or would you like me to suggest something?

I'm currently designing a 4 channel gainclone using BrianGT's boards which could be adapted to take 6 channels.

cheers
Giaime
I.... I..... I... Just don't belive it... It shouldn't be possible!

Veryveryvery good looking! But admit that blue leds have a big role in this... :D

Blue leds are the greatest gift for us diy-fanatics since the National's series of well-known chips. ;)
ddole
Wow!!

You made me throw my chassis in the garbage! :bawling:

Top notch. ;)
