I will run this one by everyone... I'm trying to figure out a way to achive insane light output. There are 1500 and 2000 watt MH bulbs that are long arc, that produce 5600K light.

If I used a 15" MH long arc bulb with some reflector behind it (Salad bowl) and directed the light into a lens that focused the light to a point (think magnyfying glass). This in turn would be focused on the input side of a DXY lens, which in turn would spread the light to a fresnel?

Or is this a case that the light that is focused on the DXY still isn't coming from a uniform source so this non-uniform light entering the lense will just be spread back out by the DXY? Garbage in = garbage out?

I found one bulb that may have a 30mm arc @ 2000 watts, still waiting to hear from the vendor. It's hard to tell the radiation pattern of light and such.

Bad news.

2000 watt short-arc lamp isn't availible in US, 120 days lead time, can't use a M134 ballast, and the ballast for the lamp isn't UL listed.

Groan.

Long arc is the only solution outside of MSR-1200 it seems.

the problem you will see is that it is impossible to focus a long source into a point without specially designed lenses. When you try focusing the source into a point, the "point" will end up being exactly the same size as your arc, assuming you are using normal (generally, spherical) lenses in your light setup.
