Gday.

I have looked all over for a simple, well designed
and cheap phono stage/pre. that is battery powered. (>24v<)

Any links or schematics, is appriciated.

Hello GeirW,

If your looking for a battery powered tube design look at this link.

Select battery phone in the left side frame.

By this very low voltage this preamp will have very low overload and high distortion. Try connect four battery in series. Very nice PCB.

Wow, i agree with Upa! :)

What's strange is they are not even trying to make things easier for the tubes - a choke load or an active current source will make a real difference and the circuit may actually become listenable. Or maybe not.

Nice. but not exactly cheap, it would be around 260$
just for the tubes. :o (if i buy them local)
(that`s a bit over my like to use.)
TnX. for the link.
I guess running low voltage limits the choices by far.
Any other options.?

Steve Bench has a design,

http://members.aol.com/sbench/6088pre2.html

That I’ve used for the past 3 years. Sounds better than any RCA implementation I’ve done. The 6088 tubes are relatively easy to get and run from $3 to $12 each depending on seller. The tubes are sensitive to filament voltage, too high and they howl. Slightly under voltage and well muffled from acoustic and vibration they are fine. Sounds like Steve is showing a new 5676 design at the European Triode Festival which is going on now, you maybe able to read about the design in a few weeks. Don’t know if his 5676 design is a battery design, but I expect it is. My 5676 line amp is battery based.
